Barbara Greig
BARBARA JOANNE GREIG
(née THICKSON)
February 18, 1941 - June 2, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Joanne Greig, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed away peacefully in her home on June 2, 2024, embraced in love.
She leaves to mourn her three children, Stacey, David and Jamie (Kathy), her grandchildren, Elana and Becca, in-laws, Bruce and Louise, many extended family members, and countless friends. Barbara was predeceased by her loving mother Georgina, her dear brother Jim, and her beloved husband Archie.
Barbara was born and raised in Winnipeg. She had close family in Carman, Manitoba, where she developed a lifelong love of the natural world. Barbara worked as a secretary for the Winnipeg School Division and the Child Guidance Clinic. However, she had additional vocations in her private typing business and seamstress work which she did while also volunteering as secretary for the Tourette's Society for more than 30 years. She made lifelong friends along the way, gaining admiration and respect from those whose lives she touched.
Barbara will always be lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile, warm heart, and positive spirit. She was kind, thoughtful, helpful and dedicated; and those who knew her well were treated to her wonderful sense of humour. Barbara made each place she touched more beautiful, both literally and spiritually. Barbara's greatest joys were in caring for others and being with her family. She will be remembered with immense and eternal love.
SILENT TEAR
Each night we shed a silent tear,
As we speak to you in prayer.
To let you know we love you,
And just how much we care.
Take our million tear drops,
Wrap them up in love,
Then ask the wind to carry them,
To you in Heaven above.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful Palliative Care Team for supporting Barbara's care at home. Without you, it would not have been possible. There are too many folks to name, and those of you who cared for Barbara like she was your own mom, with genuine love and compassion, have our deepest gratitude (you know who you are).
As per Barbara's wishes, a cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at 603 Wellington Crescent on Friday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
