THOMAS JOHN GRIFFITHS

March 1, 1940 - February 28, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Thomas Griffiths at St. Boniface General Hospital after a short illness. He was 83 years old.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Alice (née Prairie); his son Neal (Lucile); and his cherished grandchildren, Mia, Nathalie, and Joël. Also mourning his loss are his three sisters, Betty Simpson, Doreen Reid, and Marjorie (Allen) Fitzell; his in-laws, Roger Prairie, Lorraine Provost, Raymonde Prairie, Rosa Prairie, Dave Mills; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his son Warren; his parents, Reginald and Elsie Griffiths; his sisters, Dorothy Barbour and Mae (Merv) Hink; his parents-in-law, Antoine and Marie-Ange Prairie; and his brothers-in-law, Rod Simpson, Leonard Reid, and Roland Prairie.

Tom was born on March 1, 1940, on the family farm in the Baie St. Paul area, west of St. Eustache, Manitoba. He lived and worked on that same farm nearly his whole life until he moved to Winnipeg in 2018.

Tom found joy in rural living, where he knew all his neighbours. His favourite moments were spent visiting with his friends and family, relishing Alice’s home cooked meals, riding his tractor, retreating to his small shack in the bush, playing cards, and driving on country roads.

Tom will be missed by many. He will be remembered for his ability to connect with others, his witty sense of humour, remarkable memory, and the love he had for his grandchildren.

During his final months, Tom resided at Actionmarguerite in St. Boniface, bravely battling arthritis. The family extends their gratitude to the caring staff, his roommate Bob Weiss, and all those who visited and reached out to him. A special thank you to Gary Tully and Doreen Reid for their frequent visits.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 4000 Portage Avenue (Chapel Lawn Funeral Home).

Tom's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

What a beautiful tribute video.

So sorry to hear of Tom’s passing.

Sincere sympathy to all the family.

I remember Tom well from school at Baie St. Paul and from many visits to the Griffith home. It was always a special time for me and he was always there to tease his little sisters and their friends.

I always enjoyed my chats with Tom while I worked on his vehicles.

He loved visiting with my mom Helene while he was at the shop.

Our sincere condolences Alice and family.

I always enjoyed visits  at your place on the farm when we were young. I remember how  close friends Marcel and Tom were. They enjoyed  good teasing fun between them.  Hugs to all. 💕
