Obituary Photo

PAUL HENRY GROLEAU

April 28, 1956 – March 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul Groleau, beloved husband, dad, pepère, brother, uncle, friend and neighbour.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Rita; their children, Daena, Gaston; and granddaughters, Annika and Elanie. Also left to mourn his passing, sisters, Agnes, Johanne, Gaetanne; brother Harvey (Kelly); mother-in-law, Simone Dorge; sisters and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Hervé and Exerna; sisters, Jeannine and Claire; and as recent, brother-in-law Brian F; and nieces, Lindi and Breanne.

To so many of us, he was Papa, Husband, Pépère, Son, Brother, Uncle, and a great friend. To Rita, his forever love, he was not just a partner, but her person — a life built on laughter, loyalty, and a deep, unwavering bond that so many admired.

He was also known by many names — Paulo, Grubee — each one carrying its own stories, its own memories, and its own kind of love.

Paul fought a long and difficult battle with countless health challenges. And yet, if you ever met him, you would never know the extent of what his body was carrying. That’s because Paul chose joy. He chose laughter. He chose life.

He had a joie de vivre that was impossible to ignore — the kind of energy that filled a room the moment he walked in. He believed deeply in living life to the fullest, and he did just that. Always fun, always optimistic, always ready with a joke, Paul had a way of making people feel lighter, even on their heaviest days.

He was the kind of person you could count on — no questions asked. Whether you needed a helping hand, a listening ear, or just a good laugh, Paul would show up… and somehow, he would always make things better.

He truly was the

life of the party.

Paul was incredibly proud of his children, Daena and Gaston — a quiet, steady pride that showed in how he supported them and stood by them through everything. And his greatest joy, without question, were his granddaughters, Annika and Elanie. The love he had for them was immeasurable — so deep and permanent, it was quite literally tattooed on his chest. They were his world.

A true jack of all trades, Paul could fix just about anything and take on whatever came his way. He loved his golf, his hockey, and earlier in life, his snowmobiling adventures. When those adventures were no longer possible, he didn’t slow down. Instead, he discovered a new passion: woodworking. With a natural, unspoken talent, he created with his hands, putting the same care, patience, and pride into every piece.

He also had a deep love for fishing — a passion that began in his childhood alongside his dad, and one that stayed with him throughout his life. It was one of those simple, meaningful joys that connected him to his roots and to the people he loved.

And then there was the music.

If there was a song playing — or even if there wasn’t — Paul was singing. There wasn’t a single day he didn’t break into song. And if he didn’t know the words, he made them up… and somehow, they were always better that way. Add in a little dancing, and you had a moment no one would forget.

At the center of it all was Rita. Making her laugh wasn’t just something he did — it was part of who he was. It was his daily mission, and one he took seriously. Their love story is one that will continue to live on in all of us.

On March 25, 2026, at 5:12 p.m., Paul left this world peacefully, surrounded by some of his favorite people — a gentle goodbye for a man who lived such a full and vibrant life.

Though our hearts are heavy, we know this to be true: Paul’s spirit, his laughter, and his warmth do not leave us. They live on in every story we share, every joke we tell, and every moment we choose joy, even when life is hard.

Because that’s what he taught us.

Paul,

You will be deeply missed,

endlessly loved,

and never forgotten.

Respecting Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life to honour our beloved Paul will be held at a later date.

In his memory, please consider donations to Cancer Care Manitoba, Myeloma Canada, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation – Renal Program.

A special thank you to all the wonderful and caring nurses, doctors and staff at E2 ICMS, St. Boniface Hospital.

i was so sorry to hear that paul had passed away.I worked with Paul from the time he started at Bathurst in the 70s until i retired in 2003.He was very energetic and put a lot of life in the drudjery of the daily work life.He was very knowledgeable about the business we were in and he liked to remind us that he was very much like the Montreal Canadiens: they seldom lost and he was seldom wrong!!! all of us who knew him well will miss him dearly and remember him fondly.

My cousin who was always laughing. My fondest memories were when our families got together and celebrated the holidays. Over the years life led us in different direction but when we reconnected, it felt right, we were family again. You will be missed

Such a beautiful tribute, and many heartfelt messages.

A life so well-lived, is a life remembered with love.

Someone who meant so much to so many will live on in all the loving memories.

Most sincere sympathies to Paul's beautiful and dedicated wife Rita, his children and grand-children.

Under the circumstances you were lucky have him with you for so long, and he so lucky to have you supporting him the whole way.

Dear Rita and family

Laura and I were so sad to hear of Paul's passing. So many fond memories, we have tried to capture the best.

Paul was a master of planning golf trips, always had a keen eye for a bargain and great food. Breezy Point definitely didn't make any money on us when included all you can eat and drink! But my personal favorite was always Buffalo Point. Gilles and I were also happy to host some of our golf excursions at our cottages. Everyone who new Paul admired his wild shirts, his love for the Habs, but mostly his many amazing traits. Paul was generous, always the life of the party, so very kind hearted, witty and most memorably fiercely loyal to his family and friends. It was a given that Paul would mention how lucky he was married to Rita, whether out golfing or just sitting on a deck having beer. We felt blessed to host their 25 th anniversary as we admired their devotion to their marriage. We are also grateful he sought me out for a job in a company that was difficult to get in. Working together brought me much good fortune, as he always looked out for me as a supervisor. We didn't just work together brought, we played hockey with the Muggers and baseball against each other, and countless golf games.

Paul , you fought a courageous battle with all ailment thrown your way, always trying to make it easier on your loved ones by minimizing your discomfort. Your were a fighter, Laura described you as a "timex watch" that "took a licken" but kept on ticket". Alas, time ran out. We send our heartfelt condolences to all family and friends, the memories will live forever. Gerry and Laura

For many years Paul and Rita were at Paul's older sister, Agnes's special events, as were we. Paul had a big character and was always the life of the party. He fought a courageous battle and will be truly missed.

"For My Big Brother " by Tyra

You showed me a lot of things,

I learned a lot I didn't know,

But you forgot to teach me one last thing-How to let you go.

I know you didn't mean to leave me,

Sometimes we have no choice,

I miss being your little sister,

Hearing my name called by your voice.

I wish I got to say "I Love You "

Before you were given to the sky.

If God could grant me one last wish,

I'd ask to say "Goodbye ".

You always meant a lot to me.

I could never love you less,

I know it's true when they say,

"He only takes the best".

It was an honor to call you "Brother"

I will miss your presence dearly.

Love you

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul in 2006 when I started working with him. He was my supervisor when I was newcomer to Canada and new to the line of work. He helped me to adjust to the new environment, and he kept his eye out for me. His door was always open. Everyone at work loved him. Years after he retired, people still remember and talk about his jokes, his smile, and his kindness. I was always so happy to see him when he came to visit us at work. He was a great guy and will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Such a beautiful tribute to an amazing guy!

One of my first memories of Paul is when he and Gerry asked me and Fern if we wanted to go for a “bike ride”; and did I have a backpack.

So they biked to our place and we proceeded to start our ride. Next thing I know we are at the beer store and they are stuffing cans of beer in my backpack. We then proceeded to go down the monkey speed trails by the Seine River where we sat and drank beer all afternoon. Paul and Gerry kept referring to us as a bad ass bike gang. Such a great memory with so many laughs!

Paul and my brother were best friends since grade school and in our teens they would show up for supper with great appetites and a lot of teasing. Lots of laughs and memories over the years and we discovered as young adults that Paul and our grandfathers had been friends in the country. Paul was one of a kind with a big heart.

My deepest sympathies to Rita and all the family.

Mon Petit Frère:

I remember all the special times we had. As we were raised side by side, sharing good, sharing bad. Sometimes we would disagree., but always made-up in the end; but as we grew to be adults, we became the best of friends.

There is no other Love like the Love for a brother; There is no other Love like the Love from a brother.

Thank you for being in my life.

Je t'aime et Je te manques énormément mon Petit Frère.

Dear Rita and family,

Our deepest condolences go out to you all.

Paul was one of Gilles' golf buddies these last few years and oh! , they had lots of fun and laughs. He will miss him dearly.

We had the pleasure of a visit from Paul and Rita in Mesa a few years back and Paul fell for those wild and crazy golf shirts. We brought back a few so he could dazzle everyone on the course as only Paul could do!

The shirts were as colorful as his personality.

Rest in peace , dear friend.

Paul was one of a kind! we loved and laughed with him and at his humor always. He was a fighter to the end and most times you wouldn't have known he was fighting a battle for his health. He warmed our hearts, he made us laugh, he shared with us how much he loved Rita, his children and grand children. He will always be missed and always remembered.

There will never be a gathering of Paul's buddies without sharing stories of his antics that bring us to tears.

Rita and family our deepest sympathy.

I’ve known Rita for at least 40 years and through Rita I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Paul through all her stories. One day we physically got to know Paul when my husband and I had car trouble in the states and lo and behold a knight in shining armor showed up….well actually it was just Paul and Rita lol. He helped and did not leave us until our car was fine. Paul and Rita were a team through thick and thin and I consider myself fortunate to have known him.

My condolences to all
