LESLIE “LEE” EUGENE GROS
November 20, 1952 – December 1, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leslie Eugene Gros on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the Riverview Health Centre.
Lee was predeceased by his loving parents, Jean Eugene and Mary (Moroz).
Born and raised in St. Vital, Lee cherished his lifelong connection to the community and the many friendships he nurtured over the years.
Lee's journey took him to Calgary for a time, where he worked as a cab driver, before returning to Winnipeg to build a meaningful career. He worked at Versatile Industries as a quality control inspector, contributed to the aerospace industry, and later found his passion as a computer programmer.
Lee had a deep love for music, with country music holding a special place in his heart.
An avid animal lover, Lee adored his cats, especially his beloved Siamese, Zu Zu, who will deeply miss his companionship.
Lee was a kind and generous soul who touched the lives of many. He was a true friend to those who knew him, leaving behind countless memories of laughter, support, and compassion.
Throughout his life, Lee faced numerous health challenges, but he met them with unwavering grace and a positive spirit. He was known for his warm and friendly demeanor, always greeting others with his signature phrase, "Hey, how ya doing?"
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Riverview Health Centre for the care and compassion shown to Les during his final journey.
A celebration of Lee's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 5th, 2025, at the Fort Garry Legion #90, 762 Pembina Highway.
Godspeed, Lee. You will be missed.

Godspeed Les. Always a kind soul with a positive outlook. So glad we were able to catch up in recent years. You are definitely missed, and no-one is truly gone so long as they are remembered.

We send our deepest condolences to the family- Les was truly a special soul! We were lucky to have him as a friend during the 80's and 90's-he was even the best man at our wedding where we actually got him to wear a tuxedo! He was the first to teach Bob all about Mustangs, and the first to show me how to use a computer, and the first person either of us trusted enough to ride us on a motorcycle! We suddenly lost contact after we moved - we were heartbroken to find out it was due to his memory issues that caused him to only vaguely remember us. However the memories we have will always be ones of love, joy and laughter which we will forever treasure, and we pray he now has all the peace he so richly deserves.......while driving a 68 Shelby GT500KR eternally!

Those of you who have spent Christmas alone have probably experienced loneliness. I have been alone more than I care to remember and on several occasions avoided being alone because of my good friend. I could call on Les at midnight or two in the morning and invite myself over. Always welcome and often happy to share his drugs we would talk and laugh into the early morning. When my marriage ended and my new marriage began Les was there as my friend. When my son was born and my first wife died Les was there as my friend. When I was accepted into law school and was called to the bar Les was there as my friend. Decades have gone by and he was always there as my friend .Now he's gone and I have a position open for a friend.

I knew Les when I was around 25 and he was 32. We always had fun riding on his motorcycle, and old Cougar he was fixing up and a Corvette Stingray. Going out for lunch, just spending time together. Turned out we even knew someone in common, his friend Robert Benson. We then lost touch when I unexpectedly decided to move to BC. We never talked again, though I always wondered how and what he was doing and if he was happy. May he rest in peace.

Les and I were friends for many years. He took me on many motorcycle rides, often late in the evening to cool off as neither of us had air conditioning. He came over and sat with me through lightening storms becaus he knew I was afraid. Over the years, I often thought of him (even long after we were no longer in touch). RIP my friend
