RICHARD MICHAEL “RICK” GUARINO
February 6, 1951 – February 8, 2026
A Photo Biography Video is forthcoming.
Please check back soon.
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Michael Guarino on February 8, 2026, just days after celebrating his 75th birthday. Rick leaves behind a legacy built on devotion to family, a passion for life, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 54 years, Jean Guarino, whose love and companionship were the foundation of his life. Together they built a family that meant everything to him. He will be forever cherished by his children: Jason (Sally) Guarino, Chris (Shawnee) Guarino, and Lori (Buck) Pierce. Nothing brought Rick greater pride than being a father, and he carried that same love into his role as a grandfather. His grandchildren — Shae and Cody, Cadence and Hazel, Bailey and Bo were the light of his life. Whether sharing stories, laughter, or quiet moments together, he treasured every second spent with them. Grandpa had a unique relationship with each grandchild and each of them knew how special they were to him.
Rick was a man of many passions. Music was one of his lifelong joys. As a self-taught musician, he could often be found with a guitar in his hands, filling rooms with country and classic rock music. He loved the freedom of the open water while boating, the thrill of snowmobiling through winter landscapes, and the simple happiness that came from being outdoors. Yet above all, Rick’s greatest passion was his family — the people who gave his life its deepest meaning.
He enjoyed a long career in the printing industry working at various printing companies throughout Winnipeg. He took great pride in his home in Charleswood making it warm and welcome. He was meticulous in taking care of his yard and pool, spending countless hours in an effort for the greenest grass and bluest pool. Rick could often be seen walking one of his many dogs; most recently “Cooper” joined the family.
Those who knew Rick will remember his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the way he made others feel welcome and valued. He lived with humility, kindness, and an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, leaving behind countless memories that will be held close forever.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Rick’s love will continue to live on through his family, his music, and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
The family is forever grateful for the quick response of friends and neighbours, the Headingley Fire Department and all first responders.
A private celebration of life is being planned.
In lieu of flowers if you choose, please make a donation to a charity of your choice or the Heart and Stroke foundation.

Hi Jean, I just recently was told of Ricks passing. My heartfelt condolences on your loss.
I’m grateful to have known Rick as a good generous friend. I will always remember him taking me in his car around Winnipeg and especially on a great Red & Assiniboine River boat ride when I last visited. Also around 1971 a snowmobile ride on the frozen Assiniboine River. I really enjoyed both you and Rick in your wonderful home drinking tea while we talked and shared stories the last time I visited.
Jean I know you have much love and support from your family and friends and they will give you comfort and peace during this difficult time. Shine On , Lorne Hanis

I have a fond memory of spending time with Rick out in his back shed/ yard while visiting him and the family out west.
I was much younger then, but still remember his kindness and encouragement as he took the time to show me his skills and inspire me as he knew I was learning to play guitar. I can remember studying him as he jammed away. Next song I play will be a tribute to him.
He was a very special guy. Sending all My love to my whole family out west. I am sorry for your loss and so grateful to have known him!
love to all

Rick was a kind and warm soul who was deeply passionate about his family and life’s adventures. I was lucky enough to live in the same complex as him and Jean for a few years. Every morning as I was leaving for work, Rick and I would talk about sports and life. You always made my day.
Much love to you, Rick, and my heartfelt condolences to the family.
Colin

I am heartbroken to hear this news.
Rick was such a kind, bright, and caring person. We met at work, and he supported me so much during my pregnancy and after. He was always ready to help, always sending me videos about babies — how to care for them, how to handle first foods — and he constantly reminded me that I was a good mom and that I was doing everything right. That meant more to me than he probably knew.
I still remember wishing him a happy birthday and how happy we were to know each other. The very next day, he sent me another video — telling me not to panic when my little one Gags. That was so him — always caring.
I was really hoping he would come visit and see how much Freya has grown. He had only seen her as a tiny baby and admired her so much.
The way he spoke about his grandkids — with such pride and love — was truly special. He was a genuinely warm and thoughtful soul. He will truly be missed.
I grieve with you and your family. Sending you love and strength.

I’ll always remember my Uncle Rick. I loved seeing him enjoy the beautiful oasis he created and spending time with family. I’ll never forget the trails behind his house in Charleswood, where he took us snowmobiling. It was always a highlight of my childhood. He was so careful in everything he did, yet always kind and thoughtful. He was a wonderful person and will be deeply missed ❤️🙏

Jean & family....like the Beatles professed in the 60's .... "All you need is Love, love...love ...love is all you need!" What a wonderful life Rick has lived because he was so loved by each of you. We are so sorry for your loss. His thoughtful watchfulness was unique. He never needed to be the the centre of attention. He would have a slight smile and his aura was a quiet calm. whenever we were in his presence, Rick professed his love for family openly in his Facebook posts. That's what mattered to him. An ordinary man who lived an extraordinarily fulfilling life. He leaves a legacy of love in the hearts of all who knew & loved him.
