FRANK J. GUNTHER

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that our son, brother, father, and friend, Frank Josef Gunther, passed away on October 5, 2018 at the age of 47.
 
Frank is survived by his children Lance and Emily, his parents Frank and Katalin Gunther, his sister Jennifer (Joe) Bonekamp, his nephews Keenan and Krisjan. His is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and his close friend Dawna Klemick.
 
Frank was proud and protective of his children, family and friends. He loved those near him and cared deeply for others. He had a heart of gold and always offered help to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed engaging in conversations about history, little known facts, fantasy, and the military. He also loved to joke around and was known to quote movies and lyrics while using funny and entertaining voices.
 
Frank attended Edmond Partridge and Elmwood High. His journey took him through programs at University of Manitoba and Red River College. Wherever Frank worked, whether in the military, transportation, in care, or as security, he always made friends, people trusted him and many came to him for advice and support.

Frank cherished his friendships and was known for his lively spirit and how he could “shake his booty” on the dance floor.
 
Frank was met with many challenges in life. Regardless of these challenges, he was always hopeful for a brighter future for his family, friends and those who may have experienced similar challenges.  Frank would often joke about how he was stubborn, hard-headed and tough, but within was a little boy who just wanted to be loved. He will be deeply missed.
 
Although Frank dreamed of one day having a Viking funeral, according to his wishes, a cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. on 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church) by Integrity Death Care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Frank to Canadian Institute for the Blind (CNIB –Manitoba) or to Canadian Diabetes.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Vision Impaired Resource Network (VIRN), as well as Dr. Patel and Dr. Enns for all their amazing support, advocacy, care and compassion.
