MARC ROLAND GUYOT

April 13, 1944 – April 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marc Roland Guyot at the age of eighty, after a lengthy illness.

He was predeceased by his father Benoit (2009); mother Jeanne (1998); sister Elyse Paley (2017); and sister-in-law Charlene (2023).

He is survived by his brothers, Dennis Guyot and Gil Bedard (Nympha); his sister Danielle Claeys (Henry); as well as nephews, Christian, Matthew, Reald, Brendan, Jeremy, Joshua, Jordan, Evan, Elliot, and Jared; nieces, Selena and Rebecca, and their families.

Marc had a long and successful career with the Winnipeg Fire Department. He attained the rank of Captain and retired in 1999 after 33 years of service. After retirement he put his passion of building to good use by working with his brother in the landscape and construction industry for 20 years. He can be credited for constructing hundreds of decks and fences throughout Winnipeg and surrounding rural communities.

He always made himself available to help his family with whatever was required. He was first to offer his help with construction projects, yard work, electrical and painting. He was fully aware of the importance of family.

He had a great sense of humour and the uncanny ability to convey a rough exterior; however, that was only meant to mask the beauty and compassionate soul within.

Marc had an immense love of all animals. He spent hours taking injured animals to rehabilitation centres, or trapped animals to be released.

In his younger years he was heavily involved in minor hockey; he coached for many years and spent countless hours making outdoor ice at a local community centre.

He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital--C5 Medicine, B5 Medicine and the Dialysis Unit for their compassionate care and dignity during his time there.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will be held at a later date.

If you desire, please feel free to donate in Marc’s memory to the charitable organization of your choice.

Marc’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

My condolences to the family. Marc was always a really nice guy to me, and sometimes in his early years, he would help my dad out with work around the house, like painting etc. I also golfed a couple times with Marc and his dad, and enjoyed his friendly company. Over the summer, he used to store all the hockey uniforms for the Norwoode Falcons in our basement. He will be missed by many. May he rest in peace.

Mes sincères condoléances à la famille.

When I was 15, Marc gave me a place to play with the Archwood Falcons when I had nowhere else to play. If it wouldn't had been for Marc I wouldn't have played beyond 16! What great memories! He outfitted with the team with matching pants ,gloves and socks!

Marc was a firm no nonsense coach but outside of the rink he really cared for his players! Merci Marc I'll always be grateful for the opportunity you gave me!

Mes sympathies les plus profondes... I remember when the family Christmas gatherings often held in the basement at our house, Marc would always be sure to pay attention to me by shaking my hand. Merçi Marc.

Many many years ago I played goalie for the Norwood Falcons Juvenile hockey team in St B. and Marc was my coach .Because I didn’t have real goalie skates,Marc went out and bought me a pair from his own money.A memory that has lasted vividly in my memory for well  over 50 years. Recently he helped build a beautiful gazebo in our backyard..I not only considered Marc a friend but someone I looked up to. You will be missed by many coach. I’m grateful for having spent time with him a few years ago

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I had the privilege of playing hockey for Marc at Falcons Community Club. He was a no-nonsense coach and portrayed a rough exterior, demanding the best out of his players.  But I believe that all who played for Marc over the many years he coached knew full well, that he was totally invested in the team and us as players. He was good man, and he made a difference in the lives of many. Thank you, Marc.

To the Guyot family,

So sorry for your loss. Although we lost touch with each other over the decades as our own families grew,

I have fond memories of our youth growing up together in the Archwood community.

My thoughts & prayers are with you.

To Denis & family,

I’ve known Mark and the Guyot family for most of my life as I spent a lot of time at their place in my early years.

Although Mark was a man of few words, he always had a special greeting for me every time I saw him.

I remember a time when Denis was getting his skates sharpened by Mark.  As Denis dropped off his skates, I asked Mark if he would do mine.   “I don’t have time for that” Mark said and a moment later “leave them with me”.    Of course my skates had been sharpened along with everyone else’s on his hockey team.   Mark fooled a lot of people with his poker face but in reality, the Mark I knew was a very kind, caring and generous person.

Sending heartfelt condolences to you, Denis and your family.
