RENE HADDOCK

It is with heavy hearts we announce that after a lengthy illness Rene Haddock passed away at the age of 72. Rene is survived by his wife, and love of his life, Lucia (Lulu) (nee Trudeau) of 52 years, his three daughters and grandchildren, Tammy Haddock (Cory, Crystal, Tianna, Caleb, Lucas), Tracy Beaulieu (Kinew, Dyami, Raymie, Kacia, Fayth), Sandy Scarpino and her husband Terry, his brothers, sisters, in-laws, many nieces, nephews, friends and his faithful little buddy, Loopy.

Rene grew up in Ile des Chênes where he and Lulu started their family. In the early years they spent many weekends camping with family, and taking the kids on long distance trips often to family events where him and his siblings would pick up a guitar around the campfire and sing some good ole country tunes. He later moved to Winnipeg and worked at the Airport as a millwright and then supervisor for many years where he fostered a number of special lifelong friendships.

He had a natural talent for building things, particularly with wood, from building his own home in Ile des Chênes to making miniature wooden cars, he loved to express his creative side in this way. When anyone would say, “Rome was not built in a day” his response would be “It’s because I wasn’t there”.

He loved hockey and was a loyal Montreal Canadians fan and in his younger years a talented goaltender himself.  He once told us he led the league in both save percentage and penalty minutes.  His passion for gardening and yard care was evident every year when you visited his yard and saw the lush and well cared for grass and plants.

He very much enjoyed spending the summers fixing the cottage at Lake Manitoba, driving around on his tractor, and having some drinks while visiting his cottage friends.

In keeping with Rene’s wishes cremation has taken place and no funeral services will be held.  Rene’s family kindly requests that you take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. It would be greatly appreciated if you would consider sharing photos, memories and stories of your own on the comment section of this page.

We kindly ask that in lieu of flowers you make a donation in his honour to the charity of your choice.

He was the best big brother ever. Howard and I got to spend a week with Rene last January so Lulu was able to go to Mexico with her sister Linda. It was such a great week. My brother was a teddy bear with a big growl lol. We will really miss him and the time we got to spend with hil. Love you always and forever.

Our dear neighbour, Rene was always ready and willing to have a good old chat over the fence! He was also ready with home fixing ideas which we always appreciated. If we didn’t know what to use or how to go about something he was there to help.  If you wanted to know where Rene was around 3:30, for many years you would find him sitting on the steps out front chatting with neighbours and kids as they came home from school. We will miss him and remember him as the good soul he was! Our deepest condolences to Lulu and the rest of the family! He is at peace!

On behalf of the Bohemier family, I would like to offer Lulu and family our heartfelt condolences. René (otherwise known to us as le gros Teddy Bear) was a good friend of our dad Paul. When we reminisce about our dad, you can be sure that the Haddock brothers are always mentioned. They were good days and we have good memories of René. May he rest in peace.

Lucia:  My heart goes out to you and your family at this sad time.  I never knew Rene but he must have been a good man from all the comments I’ve read.  May you find comfort and healing until the New World when Rene will be awakened from the grave into a beautiful garden where there will be no death sorrow or pain ever again. (Rev. 21:3-5) ❤ Karin

My dad Kevin worked with Rene for many years at the Winnipeg Airport. I loved going to visit my dad at work because Rene would always be across the hall waiting to take us to the vending machine to get snacks! So sorry for your loss.❤  Melissa
