SHIRLEY E. M. HAIN

It is with great sadness that we announce that Shirley Hain, our very good friend and loved one, passed away on Monday, November 27th, 2023, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents George and Elly Fullum, her beloved son Lawrence and cat Smudge. She will be missed by her close friends:  Ray and Lucie; and Larry Tanner; as well as Ray Reinsch of Calgary. She will also be missed by her longtime childhood friends: Mave; Ev; Pat; and Audrey of Winnipeg, and Ken Dopson of Victoria; also, by special longtime friends: Sonya; Donna; and Susan.

Shirley grew up in the Riverview area.  For several years she called Victoria home before returning to Winnipeg.  Shirley and Lawrence shared many special times at Winnipeg Beach and at a cottage on Temple Avenue.

Shirley worked at Manitoba Hydro for many years. She was an avid reader and an amazing writer.  Shirley enjoyed gardening, shopping, playing scrabble, as well as cribbage. Shirley had a generous and thoughtful spirit. She was a good listener, easy to converse with, and loved welcoming and entertaining friends.  Her great sense of humour will always be remembered.

Thank you, Norm; and thank you to the many kind friends and neighbours who recently helped Shirley at her home on Glenview Avenue.

Shirley was a lover of wildlife and all animals. She and Lawrence were especially fond of cats.  Therefore, contributions to D'Arcy's ARC, Craig Street Cats, or to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.  Dusty, Tippy, Baby, Blackie, Mite, Saffron, and Smudge will thank you.

Special thanks to the Doctors and staff at the 4th floor surgery and ICU Department at the Grace Hospital, for their kind and thoughtful care. Cremation has taken place.

In accordance with Shirley's wishes, no service will be held.

I will miss Shirley terribly and I am so grateful for the time spent together with her and all the memories I will hold dear. Shirley was a big part of my life from the age of 8. 50 years she was the person I thought of as my “second mom”. She helped and supported me through some emotionally tough times in my life. We also shared many years of laughter, good fun at the lake, and some travels together across Canada. Shirley had a wonderful sense of humour and a big heart. My heart is at peace knowing that she is together again with Lawrence & Smudge❤️.

I knew Shirley through my Mum, Mavis. When the two of them were together they seemed liked giggling kids. Shirley seemed to be able to make everyone laugh. I was sad to see her so shaken and heartbroken with the loss of Lawrence. Yet even at his memorial she was able to brighten people's spirits with her smile. I will miss you.

I’ll miss Shirley every day, and so will my granddaughters, Riley and Shae, who always ran for the phone when it rang around 5,  hoping it was her. We hardly missed a day of sharing each other’s news. The world is a bit emptier now, but I’m glad there’s no more sadness or suffering for her, happy with the thought that she and Lawrence and all her special pets have reunited. Love and peace to all who shared in cherishing her friendship. Pal and one-time neighbour, Susan

So sorry for the loss. I am glad to have gotten to know Shirley. A caring, knowledgeable and interesting person to converse with.  She is with her beloved Lawrence now. Rest in peace.
