ARTHUR WILFRED HALLE

March 6, 1946, Sault Ste. Marie, ON – February 19, 2026, Winnipeg, MB

Arthur was a 6 foot, blue-eyed blonde with a strong and vital physique. He worked out at the YMCA every day for 40+ years and ran 10 km daily along the sea wall in Vancouver for years. He was a marathon runner, weight trainer, skier, cyclist, motor cyclist, ocean kayaker, avid hiker and daily meditator. He practiced a wholistic approach to health; mind, body and spirit.

When Arthur walked into a room you took notice. He had impact. He was able to capture people’s attention immediately. Not out of ego, but by his natural leadership, quick intelligence and above all, his clever, sardonic sense of humour. Arthur made people laugh, and feel at ease in his presence. Uniquely, Arthur emanated a calming and gentle spiritual energy that drew people to him

He lived in Vancouver and Victoria BC from 1974.  He moved to Winnipeg in 2017 to be with the “love of his life.” When people questioned him about why he would leave the beauty of BC to move to Winnipeg he told people that “the heart doesn’t recognize geography!”

Arthur had a long history of entrepreneurship in the health industry. He was long ahead of the fitness curve, starting out in the early 1970’s. He was headhunted to open and manage a fitness centre in New England, in Thunder Bay, Ontario and launched his own weight loss clinics in BC. He created, designed and published a magazine, The Vitamin Supplement, in BC. Blessed with a voice perfect for radio, he created and hosted a health and wellness national radio programme. Arthur interviewed key leaders in the industry in Canada and Europe and was invited to wellness spas in Germany and Japan, writing articles about the different approaches to health in these countries.

He spent 3 years supervising the building of a Buddhist Temple in England and actively participated in the routines and meditation practices of the Monks. He brought that knowledge back to BC, opened another business in Victoria, BC, Clean and Bright, built it up over 20 years and sold it to his employee. It continues to operate to this day.

He was a strong man, who faced adversities without discouragement, but with a determination to make the needed changes. An example is when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013. He managed his illness without complaint and taught meditation classes to Parkinson’s patients which helped to regulate their symptoms. He was recognized by the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, CBC tv and radio for his city wide campaign to collect sleeping bags for the homeless.

Arthur was a giver, never a taker. He was committed to helping friends, family, the homeless, children and animals. If you wanted something done – you turned to Arthur. He had many, many friends who have so generously helped us during this last year of his final illness.

His is survived and greatly missed by Caron, his dedicated and loving wife and partner of 20 years; by his loving daughter Michele and her husband Bill; his granddaughter Taylor and his 3 great granddaughters, Aetha, Violet and Paisley; his brother David and sister-in-law Elaine; nephew David Jr. and great nephews, Hunter and Allen; and great niece Jacqueline, niece Alison, her children and Tracey. Predeceased are his sisters, Sandra and Barbara; and his parents, Cleo and Beatrice.

He is lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Joan, niece and nephew in laws Jane and Glenn, and great niece Alexia, her family, Luca, Dennis and Dragon. His niece in law Kim and nephew in law Kevin, who sadly predeceased Arthur last year.

A true renaissance man: temple and log cabin and furniture builder, fixer of anything with his hands, business man, lover of the Goldberg Variations, Pavarotti, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley, voracious reader of philosophy, history, Buddhism, actual adventures of mariners and mountain climbers and the Saturday Globe and Mail.

“He was a man, take him for all in all,

[we} shall not see his like again.”

-Hamlet

We wish to thank the end of life care team at HSC, the former women’s pavilion, for their professional treatment and compassion for Arthur.

It is so sad to know that Arthur has passed away. Yes, we are saddened, but we also feel blessed to have known him. He was such a kind, gentle man, with a sharp mind, and a great sense of humour. He was unique. Arthur was worthy of an article in the Reader's Digest describing "One of Life's most Unforgettable Characters". When you two moved into Fountain House, our whole 7th floor was enriched. Arthur was always helping us expand our thinking with books, and other reading material that he would share... It would all magically appear at our door... and then we would discuss it the next time we met. We fondly remember our great conversations at the pool, and waiting for the elevator. We loved that! Please accept our condolences. Arthur will be greatly missed. Love, Kathy and Bob

We only met a few years ago and have loved him ever since.

He (and Caron) made every day of knowing them, a joy. He was impressive for his personality and determination to make our world a better place. His heart was good.

I promise you Arthur, that Caron is being well looked after by all your friends and families. We miss you.
