DONN HANNA

November 26, 1946 – October 16, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Donn Hanna announce his passing on October 16, 2021 at the age of 74 years.

Donn was predeceased by his father Sam. He is survived by his mother Jean; his wife of 49 years, Patti; his 2 sons, Ryan (Emilie) and Richard; as well as his 3 sisters, Lois, Karen and Julie.

Donn was born in Oxbow, SK and, even though he moved as a teenager to Portage la Prairie, he always considered Saskatchewan home. After graduating from Portage Collegiate Institute, he moved to Winnipeg to pursue further education and completed his Civil Technology training. Donn later started his own home building business, applying creative innovations to his housing designs. Later in life, he applied his creativity to three self-published books.

Donn had a special attachment to Delta Beach, spending many hours helping to maintain the family cottage.

A private interment will be held at a later date. In the meantime, the family kindly requests that all of Donn’s friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing memories, and stories using the comment section on this page.

How very shocked we were to read of Donn's passing. We were neighbours at Delta for over 20 years and have missed you all terribly since the cottage was sold. Such great bonfires, talks on the deck and games of Canasta. Donn was one of our favourite authors-so humerous and down to earth. All our love to Jean, Pattie, Ryan and Richard, Lois, Karen and Julie and families. We would love to attend the memorial at Delta.

I remember him fondly.  We were teenage cousins in Portage summers of the late 1950’s. A happy and positive a person.   James MacDonald

There was no finer fellow than Donn Hanna! We first met when he did some top notch work in our condo. Then we got to know him as an author. We were delighted to go to his book readings at McNally Robinson. Most importantly, we enjoyed his humour and high standards both in craftsmanship and life. You’ll always hold a special fond place in our hearts. Gale M’Lot and Carol Briggs

My sincerest condolences to Pat❤ and family on hearing of Donn's passing. My late husband (Jack) & I met Pat & Donn through mutual friends. When we gathered socially, Don enjoyed talking about the Prairies and many other interesting topics. My husband was from Saskatchewan and also in construction so it made for a good fit. Donn was outgoing and had an easy smile and a laugh. My prayers are with you Pat and hope memories of your many years together, will be of comfort.❤
