LASZLO HARASZTI
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of dad and grandpa Laszlo Haraszti at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side at St. Boniface Hospital on February 13, 2025.
He leaves to morn his daughter Erika (Justen); and grandchildren, Jaxton and Emma.
Laszlo was born in Szigetvár Hungary. He left Hungary in early adulthood to escape the war and ended up in Belgium. From there he moved to Canada. He lived in Montreal for a short period of time and settled in Manitoba. Hungary was always home. He was always proud of his Hungarian roots and hoped to return someday.
His pride and joy were his two grandchildren Jaxton and Emma. He would look forward to his daily phone calls and weekly visits.
Laszlo faced some health challenges in recent years, but he kept going and rarely accepted help. He was diagnosed with kidney disease over 10 years ago, and was most recently diagnosed with liver cancer.

Laszlow., thank you for raising Erika to be such a good woman. She is the best daughter in law I could have ever dreamed of having. I will make sure our grandchildren Emma and Jaxton grow up to know what a good man you were. You will be missed, Rest well.

Laszlo,
Erika (his daughter) and I were best friends growing up, so I spent many days at her house. I was always semi frightened of Laszlo growing up because of his sternness, but this is not a bad thing. I can understand, now as a grown up, how his upbringing can create such a front, especially after understanding that he escaped war. Les (as we would call him) was a very strong man. After the tragic car accident that Erika's mother faced, Les was left to raise Erika on his own. Les raised a wonderful human and he taught maners to us girls growing up. He taught us to respect our elders and manners at the table. What's polite to request and what is not to little budding minds. He worked hard to provide. He used to even park his huge semi truck on a relatively narrow driveway in Windsor Park and I was always marveled by his big work truck! Les had a soft side and cared for nature. He had a beautiful back yard with a garden and he raised pigeons. The pigeons would always fly away and return to him. He had pride in what he owned. He let Erika have animals like rabbits, birds and a dog (for a short while haha)! You could tell he wanted to offer whatever was possible to her. Even a Nintendo system and a computer! All to herself! I wish I had gotten to know him better as a child, but I was just a child. As a child you are more of an observer & processor as opposed to someone seeking to understand someone's layers. As a parent today myself, I really see how much of a stand up guy Les was. I do look forward to seeing you again, up above. May you rest in peace and look after your children and grand children.
Love & Respect Always,
Zoé
