YENI YASMIN HARRIDIAL

1950 – 2021

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Yasmin Harridial, on April 6, 2021.

Yasmin was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Jaitoon; and aunts, Dolly and Meena.  She is survived by her siblings, Bill and Anton (Tara), her children, Hayden and Duane (Corinne); and her granddaughter.

Born in Trinidad, West Indies, Yasmin came to Canada in her late teens.  While it was tough for a young Trinidadian, raised in the tropics, to survive on her own, she adapted quite well.  Yasmin was very proud to be both a Manitoban and a Canadian.

It was in Canada that she met and married Keith, and raised her two sons.  This was the happiest time of her life.  She especially loved celebrating the holidays and went to great efforts to make them special for her family.  There were plenty of presents, beautifully wrapped and tagged.  Christmas time was particularly memorable.  Yasmin would elegantly decorate the home for the season and prepare a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

Yasmin always appreciated the small, everyday moments that fill up a lifetime: talking on the phone with friends; buying candy for her excited children at the kiosk located on the third floor of Eaton Place; ordering pizza from Ciociara’s and watching movies on a relaxing Friday evening; and going out for romantic dates with her husband.  Saturday evenings were spent watching comedies like the Carol Burnett Show, The Two Ronnies or Fawlty Towers, sharing the laughs with her family.  And she liked telling her sons stories of her life in Trinidad to connect them with their heritage.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Yasmin was a dedicated bookkeeper and office manager.  To those who worked with Yasmin, the words that described her were professional, diligent, intelligent, and loyal.  She worked in a variety of industries, adding to her skill set and providing greater service to each and every one of her employers.  She devoted her efforts to each company as if she were the owner; she worked to make it a success.

These are some of the many wonderful memories she leaves behind for her family and friends.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  Due to Covid restrictions, no formal service will be held. Yasmin’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to offer prayer and honour her memory.  Please also consider sharing your own memories and stories of Yasmin using the comment section on this page.

For those who wish, donations may be made to The United Way.

GODSPEED, Yasmin, my Big Sister. Some of the best days of my life were when I was a little kid, having fun with you at home. Canada became your new  home in 1969, and we always stayed in touch with each other over the years. The good times we shared have always stayed with me, and they will always. Thank you, Big Sister, for the good times we shared, and I pray that God receives you with His Divine Grace, Love, and Mercy, into His Heaven. Love Always, your little brother, Anton.❤
