JOHN (JACK) LIVINGSTON HARRIS

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. On Sunday, August 26th Jack passed away suddenly in his sleep.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of almost 59 years, Ann (nee Stripe); his daughter Jennifer (Louis) Kolly, grandchildren, Amy and Carli-Anne (Bob) Pascal and great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Levi; his son Greg and his son Graham (Darlene). Also survived by his brother Paul, sisters Anna (Ron) Kehoe, and Georgia. Numerous nieces and nephews in Toronto and England. Predeceased by his parents John and Tillie, brother Bobby and sister Vienn.

A celebration of life will be held on October 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Travelodge hotel located at 20 Alpine Avenue, Winnipeg MB.

Born & raised in Toronto, Jack attended Central Tech High School which had 5000 students. He was on the track and water polo teams. He left school after grade 10 to work and help his family. Years later, he met the love of his life Ann, who had come all the way from England to marry a nice Canadian bloke. They married in 1959 and moved to Scarborough to their 1st home in 1962.There they raised their 3 children. While in Toronto Jack had a passion for scuba diving and was under water most weekends in Lake Ontario. He worked as a glassman for almost 30 years and in 1971 Jack had an opportunity to open the 1st Standard Auto Glass in Sault Ste Marie. While in Sault Ste. Marie Jack coached both sons in hockey. Jack was heavily involved in every aspect of his children’s sporting activities.

According to Jack, the best times of his life was the summers spent at Pancake Bay Provincial Park camping with the family.

In 1978 Jack had the next opportunity to expand Standard Auto Glass in Winnipeg, where he opened up several shops. They ended up settling in Southdale for the next 39 years where they met life long friends. There was always a party where Jack was the center of attention or pulling pranks while throwing guests into the pool.

After retiring at Standard Auto Glass Jack and Ann bought a Robin’s Donut on McPhillips. Jack started “Rockin’ Robins” on Wednesday nights where anyone could bring their antique cars.

Antique cars were an absolute passion of Jacks. Jack and Ann went on many excursions with their cars. Over the years Jack had owned, restored and sold a 1938 Buick McLaughlin, owned and sold a 1946 Cadillac Sedan (which was proudly used in the movie “The Arrow” as Dan Aykroyds’’ personal vehicle) and 1947 Cadillac Convertible and currently owns a “cool” 1955 Pontiac Laurentian, which was driven the Sunday before his passing.

Over the last 25 years Jack and Ann spent their winters in Fort Myers, Florida. This was Jacks happy place where he enjoyed playing volleyball and pulling numerous pranks on all the women in the park. Known by all in the park, he was always waving and saying hello to everyone. He also had a passion for music. Jack along with others started Jam Sessions on Tuesday nights where they could get together and play their instruments. This was where Jack would play his harmonicas and sing his favourite 50’s music.

Jack will be missed along with his beautiful smile and laughter.
