ALFRED RUSSEL HART JR.

July 26, 1951 - March 6, 2025

It is with profound sadness we announce that Alfred has begun his journey to the spirit world after his lengthy battle with cancer.

Alfred was predeceased by his wife Jocelyne; son, Duane; his parents, Alfred Sr. and Mordina Hart; sister Audrey Dysart; brothers, Irvine, Ralph, and Ron; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Dysart and George Ross; parents-in-law, Louis and Patricia Lafreniere; and his life partner’s parents, Harold and Annette Erlendson. Also meeting him on the other side are his best friends, Elton, John, Bob, and Gary, to just name a few.

Left to mourn his memory are his life partner, Corinne Labelle; daughters, Stacy (Jason) Banman and Jennifer (Tyler) Mulla; step children, Laura (Jeff) Sampson and Kurtis Labelle; grandchildren, Gavin (Katherine) and Aria Banman; Jake Hart, Tavian, Lynkan, Ayela and Tucker Mulla; Asher and Molly Sampson; his two cherished sisters, Sharon Hart-Lindsey and Fran Ross; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Alfred was born on July 26th, 1951 in Norway House, Manitoba. He met his wife, Jocelyne while he was attending Frontiere College in Cranberry Portage. They were married on October 28th, 1972. In August the following year, they welcomed their son Duane and they became a family of 3. After the birth of their daughter Stacy, they moved from Norway House to Oakbank, Manitoba. In 1984 they moved once again to Anola, where they then welcomed their third child, Jennifer, in 1985. Alfred lost his wife, Jocelyne, in 2005, he was able to move on and meet his life partner, Corinne, and gained two more children Laura and Kurtis.

Alfred was one of the funniest, generous, loving and loyal people I have ever met. His love of music and a good party are one of the main things I remember about my dad. Growing up, I can remember parties where there was always him playing his guitar and my mom singing along, especially, House of the Rising Sun. He would tirelessly sing Puff the Magic Dragon for me over and over again, simply because I asked. Many people, if they close their eyes and think back, can hear the echoes of Charley Pride’s, Kaw Liga, echoing in the air. Or the way he could make a parody out of popular music to make everyone laugh, well maybe not Mom.

He had a sense of humor like no other, and I already miss those jokes or one-liners that he could knock off without even thinking about it. My favourite saying was “Oh my Goodness, Dad!” All the while sitting there laughing, saying “What?” Even in the end he had his family and friends laughing at some of his jokes. I didn’t hear the joke but I know “Cancun” will bring a smile to a few faces.

As it is impossible to sum up my dad’s life in some sentences and paragraphs, the truth is, I don’t need to. His legacy will live on in everyone he ever met. In his children, grandchildren, friends, and acquaintances. We all have a story and memory of him. And I encourage you all to think back on those memories and smile. He may have passed from this world to the next, but he will forever live on in all of us.

Thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at the Health Science Centre and Selkirk Regional Hospital for everything you did for Alfred.

Kîhtwâm ka-wâpamitin nohtâwiy.

I will see you again, my father.

Alfred’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

We first met Alfred and Jocelyne in Rossville in September of 1972. I had just arrived to start my career with the Hudsons Bay Company and Val arrived for her first teaching position at the Rossville School. They immediately took us under their wings and taught us so much about living in the north. So generous in opening up their home to countless dinners and get-togethers with many great memories of Alfred pulling out his guitar and leading us all in sing-a-longs. Lots of Johnny Cash songs that Alfred often changed the lyrics of, that we can still fondly remember today.. Many camping and hunting trips, including the J5 Muskeg Crawler incident that some might be aware of. He was the type of friend that everyone needed and touched the lives of many.. Our deepest ccondolences to the family and we play some Johnny Cash tunes in his memory..

So sorry for your loss...condolences from Willie and I. Back in 1967? he toured with Ray St. Germain playing lead guitar! Tour to celebrate Canada's Centennial. Those were the days! He played a mean guitar💕 one of my most favourite memories is Alfred (Junior) and I entering a twist contest and winning! We did win some money but can't remember how much. Those were the days. Happy I got to visit with him at Eleanor's 80th birthday party last June. RIP peace my brother in law and good friend. Look after Bubbs for me❤️ 🫂😢
