PETER ORION HAYGLASS
January 27, 1987 – July 26, 2026
It is with immense sadness that we share the passing of our beloved son and brother, Peter Orion HayGlass early July 26, 2026. Peter is survived by his parents, Sandy and Kent; and brother Cameron (Kacey). He also enjoyed many good times with his Uncle Alex, Aunt Nancy and cousins, Alyssa and Carolyn, growing up.
Peter died from a rare cancer after a five-month battle during which he received dedicated medical care by caring teams at St. Boniface, CancerCare and Health Sciences Centre. He remained kind, focused, brave and caring during his illness. Realistic about the possibility of failure, he was optimistic until, upon the failure of multiple chemo and immunotherapy approaches, he entered palliative care for a few days.
Peter lived a full life.
Peter loved anything computer — building them, fixing them, helping others with them and in a wide variety of video games at home, LAN parties and online internationally.
In adulthood, he developed a career selling them (MemEx), supporting their usage at a Home Security firm (Protelec) and working in an international team to manage operational infrastructure (Skip the Dishes / Just Eat Global) of Amsterdam. He enjoyed and was challenged by the work, making lifelong friends in each workplace.
Peter had a great many interests. Listening to and making Music was always a big aspect of his life. He loved researching diverse topics just for the pleasure of understanding and always had a detailed story for family dinners.
One of Peter’s earliest activities was cooking. Beginning with making Mother’s Day waffles at age 2, with brother Cam age 4, he enjoyed food in every respect. Developing his own cooking styles (rarely from recipes), sampling eclectic to posh foodie spots at home and in his travels (“Honestly Mom, the things they can do with cow lips in PV are amazing!”), discussing with fellow foodies, or shopping for unusual ingredients, Pete was in a happy place exploring cuisine.
Peter enjoyed travelling and visiting many countries from an early age. In recent years he went to Vancouver, Montreal, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and multiple times to his beloved Mexico. He enjoyed a mix of city activities, exploring transport systems, local cuisine, car trips and nature.
He was very excited to buy a BMW M240i in January 2026. He drove 500 km the first week and used it to get to chemo on his good days. Its purple colour was a standout and open invitation for conversation with fellow car enthusiasts.
A day with Peter was always exciting and engaging.
For those who wish, Peter requested that a memorial contribution can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, directed towards Clinical Trials and Research or Open Medicine Foundation Canada.

It felt important to take a moment and honour my cousin, Peter.
As adults, life has a way of creating distance. Whether it was exchanging messages about work when he was considering a joc change, or hearing updates from Aunt Nancy about what he was up to, every glimpse into his life was a reminder that he was out there living it fully. The updates, and the stories passed along through family all painted a picture of someone who made the most of his time here.
Peter, your life was a beautiful one. I'm proud to have been your cousin, and I'll carry your memory with me.

To Peter's Family,
I am incredibly sorry for your loss, Pete was a really special person and someone that is very dear to my heart. I met Pete online close to 15 years ago and we quickly bonded over a shared passion for video games, food, cooking, technology and more. I spoke to Pete every day for the past decade+ and what began as a casual friendship grew into one of the most important relationships in my life. Pete was incredibly smart and insightful and he always was the voice of rationality when I needed it most. I will think about him every time I have a good meal, see a cool BMW on the road or listen to a great song i know he would like.
I am deeply sorry for your loss and I will never forget Pete; he will always occupy a place of love in my heart.

It is with unspeakable sadness that we hear the news of Peter passing. We have so many great memories of Peter from childhood camping trips, dinners and visiting . Even though it was many years ago, we remember his contagious enthusiasm and energy. The world has lost a bright light much too soon. Our thoughts are with the loving family he left behind. Just know that we are thinking of you at this time of unimaginable loss. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. We are grateful for the wonderful times we shared together.

This was utterly shocking news. Peter was taken far too young. Life just isn't fair sometimes. We hope you are coping well in what must be one of the darkest and most difficult periods of your life. Nothing we can say will make that grief go away, but hopefully the memories you clearly continue to cherish will help to blunt some of the sadness. You have all our love and sympathy, and if we can ever do anything to help, or you just need a friendly shoulder, don't hesitate to reach out.

Shelley and I send our deepest condolences to Sandy, Kent and Cameron on the loss of your son /brother Peter.
We first met Peter when he joined the junior curling at the Charleswood club and played on a team with our son Chris along his brother Cameron. Now Peter and Chris enjoyed the social aspect of the game much to the annoyance of Cameron who eventually kicked them off his team. But the two boys got there revenge and were so happy when their new team managed a miracle win against big brother Cameron.
We had many camping trips with the Hayglasses and one thing we remember is the day Cameron was so proud of the beautiful chocolate cake he had made for supper. Well Peter and Chris just had to do something about that and proceeded to use their fingers to remove all the icing off the cake much to the chagrin of Cameron.
On a trip to the Dominican Republic we hooked up with the Hayglasses to enjoy a well earned vacation. This was the first time at an all inclusive for Peter and Chris who realized that they could have all the virgin Pina Colada they could drink....which turned out to be a LOT. Apparently a person can only handle so much of a good thing before reacting in a violent and unsettling manner,
Peter was a fine young man who will be missed by his family and friends.

Peter,
A life cut short, but a life well lived.
Growing up, you and the family would come visit and stay with us every other Christmas holiday. You (and the fam) gifted us our very first computer and showed me how to use Paint. As your younger cousins, Carolyn and I probably drove you crazy, constantly asking you to play outside with us or read us books. But if we did, you never showed it.
When I was 10, we took our first vacation to come visit you in Winnipeg. We went camping—my first time—in the camper, and it was one of the best summer vacations I’ve ever had. Always insisting I was grown up, I packed my own suitcase for the trip and didn’t realize the drastic temperature difference between southern Ontario and Winnipeg. You lent me a grey and green West 49 sweater to wear on the camping trip and let me keep it when we left to return to Ontario. That sweater is still hanging in my closet at my parents’ house.
As a teenager, you introduced me to new bands like Tool, Muse, Bad Religion, and Broken Social Scene. I’ll think of you always when I listen to them now.
Thank you for all the memories, the music, the laughs, and the little things that I’ll carry with me forever.
See you on the other side.
Alyssa
xoxo
