KENNETH "KEN" BLAINE HELGASON

August 25, 1955 - June 23, 2023

Ken passed away peacefully at the age of 67.

He was predeceased by his parents, Steini and Bergros Helgason; sisters, Fern, Eleanor, Kristjana “Kitty”, and Geraldine; brothers, Halfdan, Robert, Hallur “Halli”, and Gerald. He will be truly missed by all those he loved, including his daughter Julia, brother Carl, sister Rosalyn, many nieces and nephews, and his very dear friends.

Kenneth was born and raised in Riverton, Manitoba. He was a true artist. He created some amazing sketches and drawings (that hang on many of our walls), commercial signs, and photos. He had intellect, poetic candor, and a quick wit that was unmistakably his own. We will not forget him and will keep him in our hearts until we meet again.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Thank you to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre.

“There is a crack, a crack in everything.

That’s how the light gets in.”

~ Leonard Cohen

Ken's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

👍❤It has been a pleasure knowing you since you were just a 1 year old toddler, trying to walk. Always a good-natured person, kind, considerate and polite. You always had a friendly and intelligent air about you. I wasn't around to watch you grow from boyhood to adult, but from what I've discovered over the past few years, I gather you did very well at exercising and improving upon the traits you were born with. The past few years have been extremely enjoyable communicating with you on F/B/. I look forward to seeing you again one day when I have the pleasure of reuniting with all who have passed before me. Give my best regards to all you've reunited with, kiss all the pretty girls for me and "I'll See Ya All A Bit Later On" !! With Admiration, Al Johnson.👍

I can’t remember the last time I spoke with Kenneth in person. I was probably in my late teens, or early twenties, he of course was with Johnny. But we did chat on messenger. We would discuss, art, and music, and our thoughts on humanity these days.  I do remember about 15-20 years ago being stopped at a traffic light in Confusion corner. I saw him walking across the street and said in my mind “Ah, there’s Kenneth” it was like seeing a unicorn 🦄  I miss his wonderful spirit.  ~Suzi~

A lot of ways to describe you but brave is at the top of my list.  Thinking of others before yourself to the end.  I’ll miss our chats, your artistry and your wit. Rest easy my Eastside neighbour.  Blessings till we all meet again.
