Terry Hendrichs

TERRY LEE JOSEPH HENDRICHS
December 17, 1956 – August 2, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Terry. A beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, “The Lovely” Elizabeth; as well as his son David; and daughter-in-law Samantha. He is survived by his brother Mike Sudoski (Lorrie); sister Kim Harvey; sister-in-law Fiona Lhotka (Paul); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Terry will be remembered for his sense of humour and quick wit. He was loyal and dedicated to his family and friends.
Terry was very successful in all aspects of his life. His career took him from his hometown of Winnipeg to Vancouver and Toronto. In the last twelve years, he found his way back to Winnipeg where he happily retired. During his downtime Terry enjoyed keeping active by cycling, going to the gym and playing golf with his friends. He also took pride in spending time with the people he loved.
The Hendrichs family wish to extend their appreciation to all those who have shown their unwavering support during this difficult time. A special thank-you is also extended to the Winnipeg Police Service for their empathy and diligent work.
A “Celebration of Life” will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the charity of your choice in honour of Terry.
Terry’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Ayoye, ça fait mal! I was looking forward to seeing you in Winnipeg during the summer of 2025, on my way to British Columbia to visit my two cousins. My deepest and sincerest condolences to your family. A difficile journey for them because you were wrested from their arms but not their hearts. Terry, thank you for your empathy, your generosity, your willingness to listen and support your team members throughout your lifetime. Adieu

Well this was hard and unexpected news to hear . My heartfelt condolences goes to his lovely Elizabeth and their son David. I have had the true pleasure of knowing Terry for about 10 years now I think... as his hairstylist! He never missed an appointment until today ... he became more then just a guest in my chair... every 5/6 weeks we would have such great talks. He became like my fave uncle and friend . He was full of laughter and great wisdom and support to me as a single mom raising a young man . His words where always delivered with kindness and positivity. I am grateful for the time I got to know him , he will be missed terribly.

My heartfelt condolences to "The Lovely Elizabeth" (the way Terry always referred to her) and to David, both of whom Terry referred to so fondly when speaking of them. I had the pleasure of playing soccer with Terry in the over 35 men's league in York Region, Ontario, and riding to and from games in a car pool along with another player, Jay. Terry so often volunteered as our designated driver, allowing us to enjoy a post game beer, and in return happily accepted black coffee, or a hamburger with no lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, relish or mustard...just a bun with ketchup and the pattie. A man who was clear on what he thought, what he liked, and what he wanted.
Terry once told me being active/playing soccer before 35 was one thing, but then incrementally there occurred an increase in challenge and recovery with age stages of 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, and so on. But as he hounded the much younger opposition while still playing soccer beyond his half century in years lived, you would never know that the physical challenge was there. He was the Energizer Bunny personified.
A nod to Terry and the intensity with which he lived and loved life.

As several friends and former teammates have so correctly pointed out since I shared the news, "One of a kind!" Terry played for years on our men's soccer team in Newmarket. He was usually a few years older than most of the group, and always a few steps faster than almost all of us. He left opposition players shaking their heads wondering if he would ever stop chasing them. And the answer was "no". But the real fun was after the game. No teammates were immune. And everyone was in stitches, particularly the star of the line. I shared rides to and from games home and away with Terry and one other friend, and Terry would always take more than his share of the turns so we could have a post-game beer while he had had multiple coffees. This was but one small example of a person who would do whatever he could to help out anyone he came in contact with. To David and The Lovely Elizabeth, our deepest condolences. Terry, I will miss you, my friend.

I was devasted to hear this news. I'm still processing this, and my heart goes out to Elizabeth and David. My deepest condolences. Just typing that phase doesn't seem near enough to express how awfully sad I am.
Terry was the definition of the "iron fist inside a velvet glove". Such a gentle, funny, sweet and *deeply* decent guy but with an iron will regardinng meetings his own personal goals. He most certainly had some Zen master stuff going on there and I suppose that can be attributed to some of his karate training.
Terry was a friend and colleague at Levi's and I loved that guy. Some people you work with transcend simply liking them and enjoying their company, but your truly love them and their souls. And god Terry made me laugh, to the point of discomfort. To the point of almost getting a hernia. To the point I think I pee'd myself a little once....
I could always rely on Terry to give wise insight into difficult work we did on the sales leadership team. He never overlooked the human equation in challenging implimentations. He was the definition of a team player, and led from a place of mentorship.
I'm attaching some pictures I found from our Levi's days from sale conferences, and one picture of him at our house with Mike Beaumier, Tom Thompson, and Glenn Matsuba during a farewell party for Karen Hanna.
I'm trying super hard to hold that Dr.Suess quote in my heart for this one: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

The saddest news! My sympathies to Elizabeth and the the entire Hendrichs family! I always enjoyed Terrys sense of humour and wit! Playing soccer with him for many years was always a blast! The nicest guy on both teams. Everyone loved the after game banter with a pint ( or in Terrys case), a coffee! You will be sadly missed brother! RIP!⚽️❤️

Will allways remember our Department store sales team market road trip to Montreal and Ottawa, he made it educational and such fun. I can't even imagine how difficult this tragic loss loss is for The Lovely Elizabeth, David, and his entire family and friends.

My condolences to Elizabeth, David and the Hendrichs family. I was fortunate enough to meet and work with Terry at Levi's and I remember his quick wit, love of fitness and strong work ethic. He was kind enough to take me under his wing when I transitioned to sales on The Bay team - I learned a lot and I laughed a lot with Terry. I am forever grateful to have had Terry in my life. Extending my deepest sympathies to the Lovely Elizabeth and King David. Terry was that guy in the elevator who talked to everybody and anybody! The first person in the Levi’s office and always available to listen, teach and explain with a quick smile. Dining with Terry was always an adventure – just don’t ask for 2 spoons or sharing platter and make sure they don’t sprinkle a garnish like parsley on the rim.

My deepest condolences to Elizabeth, David and family. Such a shock and very sad to hear of the loss of such as stand-up/stand-out guy. I have such great memories working with Terry at Levi's. He worked hard, was smart, always took time to sit down and help you out or teach you how to do something. I mean he had one of the most ridiculously detailed margin spreadsheets I'd ever seen. He perfected the art of building a formula that ran his entire spreadsheet with one click. lol. He had the quickest wit and just made working alongside him fun. Everybody gravitated toward him. He had a gift. Very kind and caring soul. He will be missed to all those he encountered. I'm sure of it.

My deepest condolences to Elizabeth, David, and family.
My first memory of Terry at Levi’s was seeing him enter a large meeting dressed as a popular hockey commentator of the time complete with huge collar, cuffs and tie, and his beloved dog. This was well before bring your dog to work days but Terry was committed to the bit. He knew how to use humour to connect, entertain, and inspire.
Terry was a formative influence in my early career. He always had time to share his expertise, explain things and answer questions, without judgement but rather with a story or a joke thrown in. Many laughs but serious about the work. He genuinely cared about people and saw the best in them.

To Elizabeth, David and the extended Hendrichs Family,
Terry was a genuine, kind soul that made everyone feel so comfortable around him. I have never laughed so hard (even to this day) by anyone more than Terry. He used humor at the best of times and the worst of times to lift everyone up. He loved his work at Levi's where we spent many years working together. He was passionate about the this work and did so with such professionalism. He was a shining light which shone even brighter when he spoke of his "lovely Elizabeth" and son David. My sincere condolences to Elizabeth, David and family. A true gem that will be forever missed. RIP Terry.

. I felt compelled to comment following the shocking news of Terry Hendrichs' sudden and tragic passing. It has stirred a wave of memories from our time together in the early 1980s as members of the University of Winnipeg Karate Club.
I vividly remember the first time I met Terry. He greeted me with a huge smile that instantly put me at ease, accompanied by a quick sense of humor that made everyone around him feel welcome. Terry was not just a talented karateka; he was a natural athlete who excelled in various sports. His passion and dedication were evident in everything he did.
What stands out most in my memory is Terry's kindness and honesty towards all the new karate members. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and included. I can recall sparring with him; he always took the time to slow down and match my pace, even as he developed his skills at an impressive rate. It was as if he wanted to ensure that I felt like I was making him work hard, even though it was clear he could have easily dominated any match.
Terry's humor, sincerity, and zest for life allowed him to form friendships effortlessly. He had an infectious enthusiasm that drew people in, and his presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As I reflect on our shared experiences, I am reminded of the warmth and joy Terry brought to our lives. My heart goes out to his family and the many friends he made over the years. I will carry his memory with me always.
With deepest condolences,

He was always generous with this time and always available to offer his advice and guidence backed by many years of experience.
