DAVID HENRY

January 6, 1959 - September 29, 2022

David peacefully ended his struggle with cancer on the morning of September 29, 2022.

David is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nitara and Mitch Yablonski; three grandchildren, Thomas, Anna and Ember; his sisters, Kathleen, Heather (Denis), Paula, and Zoe (Joey); his stepfather Jim; his uncle Tim; nephews and nieces Matthew, Alexandra, Lucas, Alex, Danny, and Odin; extended family members Kim, Dana, Robert, Kathlene, Karen, and Pam; and by many beloved friends and former colleagues.

David served as a director or founding member of various organizations including Canadian Artists Representatives / Front des artistes Canadienne (CARFAC), the Winnipeg Workers Co-op, parIT (free software for small business accounting), IMC – Winnipeg (Indymedia.org), and Earth Corps (the community bicycle project etc). David loved working in ‘community building’ projects and was passionately committed to Winnipeg’s inner-city.  He enjoyed his work as a graphic artist and had a large number of pre-press and writing clients through his career, including West Central Streets, Manitoba Eco-Network’s Eco Journal and Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-MB.

David loved music, cooking, creating art, and spending time with his daughter and grandchildren. He had a unique talent for seeing and accepting people just as they are, and is remembered by many as a true friend. He will be missed.

A wake will be held in David’s honor Saturday, October 1 from 2-5pm upstairs in the King’s Head pub in Winnipeg, MB. In leu of flowers, donations can be sent to Manitoba Eco-Network, Art Beat, Manitoba Low Income Intermediary Project, Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba, or Canadian Mental Health Association.

i only found out today. he was the best friend i ever had. many wonderfull memories of me and dave drinkin beer eating pizza and listening to punk rock. he was the only person i could ever have a decent debate with, we always agreed to disagree peacefully. luckily i copied his entire punk collection, will allways have a piece of him with me.

Dear David... he was the first great love in my life... and we remained friends throughout his life.... he cared so deeply for our daughter Nitara. David had the kindest, purest heart I have ever known... he was wonderfully quirky, deeply ethical, stubborn as hell, a talented artist and always an advocate for the most forgotten ones.... David. I am always grateful for you. May your spirit infuse all who loved you with hearts that give, a deep sincerity, a willingness to be open and vulnerable, a readiness to laugh and always to remember what matters...see you next time...❤

I remember you very fondly, David. We shared a love of all things creative. He was friendly, funny, and interesting. I am sad I can't have another in depth talk with you.❤

David's Facebook posts were a tonic for all the crap on the Internet---a refuge of clear, moral, compassionate thinking
