WALTER (WALLY) HENRY

November 6, 1935 - May 23, 2025

It is with heavy hearts, we announce Wally passed away in Winnipeg, MB on May 23, 2025, at 89 years old.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Maggie Henry; brother Bill; sister Violet; first wife Mary; son Lawrence; nephew Lyle; and buddies, Ray and Wayne.

He is survived by his life partner of 38 years Paulette Wiebe; sons, Walter (Michelle), Aaron (Susan) from Kenora ON, and Randall (Nathalie); daughter Sandra; grandsons, Jamie, Shane, Joseph, Joshua, Jordan, Devon, Logan, and Jason; granddaughters, Roxanne, Rochelle, and Christine. Also left to mourn are many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends.

Wally was born in Harperville, MB in the Interlake where he had a good time of his life. He attended school in Harperville until he had to help with the family’s farm. Wally played sports as a young man; riding his bike, soccer and wrestling, fishing, and hunting were on the list.

Wally met Mary Thompson in 1959 and married in 1963. Together, they had four children: Sand, Walter, Aaron, and Lawrence. They later separated in the early 1980’s.

In 1988, he met his life partner Paulette Wiebe, who had a son (Randall) from a previous marriage. They were together until his passing.

Wally ran a Lawn care and Snow business for 45 years until his retirement at the young age of 75.

Wally liked to travel and would often go on a yearly trip to Las Vegas with Paulette, family, or friends.

Family get-togethers in Harperville were a favourite. He would spend hours just putzing around the garden, weeding, planting, and moving the lawn. Wally was proud of his garden in Harperville and always maintained a good lawn. For those who wanted to learn; Wally was always willing to teach as long as you did not stand around and kept your lines straight. Meals at any time but especially with family and friends were enjoyed. It did not matter what was for dinner or who made it, Wally always appreciated a good meal which was always followed by dessert, on the same plate. A trip to the ice cream store was a prerequisite when driving out to Harperville.

Christmas decorating was always an event. From lights to tinsel, artificial trees to fiber optic trees. Wally was always involved; even when the fight or disagreements were on; most were about how the lights were to be hung, or the tree was crooked.

In his later years, when the cabin and his home was sold and prior to moving to the nursing home; you could always find Wally in the kitchen doing dishes, planting on the balcony, and making sure the balcony was clean.

Wally wasn’t a man of many words, and he was private. If he considered you family or a close friend you knew it. His deep caring of Paulette and children could quietly be seen. Wally was a caring man, something that stayed with him even when he moved and lived in the nursing home.

His kindness will be missed.

You could see him walking the halls, comforting other neighbours, and discussing maintenance issues with the staff.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph Care home; for the excellent care Wally received.

In accordance with Wally’s wishes, cremation followed by a Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the First Unitarian Church of Winnipeg, located at 603 Wellington Crescent.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Wally’s family kindly requests that all his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
