Beverley Hicks

BEVERLEY HICKS
October 10, 1944 - September 9, 2025
We are all visitors to this time, this place. Though we are all just passing through, our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow to love and then return to God's home. Beverley Ann Hicks returned home on Sept. 9, 2025.
Bev leaves behind her partner Ernie; her brother Ken (Joanne); nephew Shawn (Joel); nieces, Shelly (Karl) and Shannon (Ray); and great nieces and nephews, Riley, Lane, Sydney, Ayden, Chelsey, Heidi and Katelyn. She was predeceased by her husband, Brent Hicks, in 2004.
Born October 10, 1944 in Plumas, she was 2 lb 4 oz and could fit in the palm of her father's hand even at 7 months old. Bev moved to Winnipeg at 15 years old to complete high school at the University of Winnipeg, later completing her Degree in Counselling at the University of Manitoba. She was later accredited in California for Reality Therapy. Bev's career of 25 years with the provincial government was in the Employee Assistance Programs across Canada. Bev volunteered as a mediator for the Mennonite Service for 3 years as well as serving as president of the Young United Church Personnel Committee.
Bev married Brent Hicks from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and had 36 years of wonderful married life sharing a love of travel throughout Europe on vacations. Brent passed away in 2004 from Leukaemia.
Bev and Ernie began their journey together as a couple in 2015 and their love of travel continued. They enjoyed a cruising the Caribbean and Panama Canal as well as wintering in Palm Springs and Victoria for many years. They also travelled with Ernie's son Richard (Erika) and family to Cuba. Bev was grateful for all the time spent with Ernie's daughter Donna (Mark) and family and appreciated their graciousness and care when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. They also enjoyed visits from Ernie's youngest daughter Lori (Davy) and children from Abbotsford, B.C.
Bev had many interests outside of work, Interior decorating was one of her favourites and a visit to her home attested to her fine taste and ability to beautify any space. She also loved to share this talent and assisted good friends Kirby and Jessie Watson in their decorating projects. Bev's outdoor spaces radiated ornamental charm, rich with blossoms and abundant plantings. Ernie's carpenter skills contributed deck and sunroom spaces and he aided her in the upkeep of the gardens. Her furry companions Poco and Angel are always at her side during her time on earth.
Bev is thankful for her many friends and guardian angels throughout her days, including Pat Burrows during her earlier 2014 cancer journey, and Verna Kotyk and Mary Wysocki in the last season of her earth life. She thanks Barb and Robert Ebbing for many kind Visits. She is thankful to the many (you know who you are) who delivered food, flowers, support and love to the house as she fought through her illness with great courage and grace. Bev is eternally grateful to her faithful partner Ernie for his wonderful care and love throughout their time together and especially while she was ill at home. In addition, she thanks the medical staff at Cancer Care who helped her along this journey with great care.
A celebration of life will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on October 18, at the Transcona Golf Club located at 2120 Dugald Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Bev’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I met Bev in 2011 during a very difficult time in my life. She helped me to see the joy and beauty in life during such a dark time. Over the many years we shared many conversations where she continued to impart her wisdom, inspiring me to become the person I have become today. Bev participated in many key moments of my life from marriage to the birth of my son. I am so grateful that Bev was part of my journey in life and I will do my very best to honour her by continuing to learn, grow, laugh and not take life too seriously. Bev, thank you from the bottom of my heart and as we always said when we left each other when we would visit "I love you".

So sad to hear about "Auntie" Bev's passing. Bev was my dad's (Erling Harris) cousin. She always made me feel special even though we didn't see eachother often. Your warm smile will be truly missed.

I was a realtor in Winnipeg and I was the one who sold Bev and Brent their home on Edgewater many moons ago. We became good friends, many fun times together, dinner parties and travel. After I moved to Florida in 1985 our friendship continued. She came to visit me, I came back to Winnipeg every summer, and it was like we have never parted.
I was in Winnipeg and at her side the day before she left us, holding her hand, big hugs and tears of goodbyes until we meet again.
Rest in peace, my wonderful friend🙏❤️🙏will never forget you and will always love you.

For 35 years, you were not just my friend, but my fellow artist, my confidante, and my inspiration. Together, we spent countless evenings in a world of colors and brushstrokes, creating more than just paintings-we created memories that I will carry with me forever. You had a way of turning even the simplest things into something extraordinary-whether it was the way you decorated your home, the beauty you brought to your garden, or the way you could make any space feel warm and inviting.
I will always remember those long nights when we would sit side by side, each lost in our own work, but always sharing in the joy of creating something together. There was something magical about the way you approached life-everything you touched seemed to glow with your unique spark of creativity.
I will miss your laughter, your wisdom, and your unwavering passion for life. But most of all, I will miss the deep friendship we shared, a bond that spanned over three decades. You were a rare soul, and I am grateful for every moment we spent together. The world is a little dimmer without you in it, but your light will live on in the art, the beauty, and the love you left behind.
Rest in peace, my dear friend. You will always be in my heart.

I knew Bev only for a few years but her gentle style and kind sole had an impact on me. I've been to her home and can attest to her skill and love for decorating. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see you these last few years. May you rest in peace Bev.

Bev was a dear beloved friend of mine and Robert's for over three decades . We first met while working together at EAP where I so admired Bev's clinical wisdom and ability to easily connect with her clients ... helping so many people over many years. But Bev quickly became far more than a coworker and turned into a very treasured dear friend. Bev was always a great sage for me thruout my personal life and a great support throughout our life's journey..I have fond memories of our trip to Cuba and dancing on the beach. More recently Bev and Ernie travelled to Victoria for winter just as Robert and I were choosing to move there ... well we were surrounded by their love , support and assistance in so many ways with our new home for which we are eternally grateful to them both. However sadly it was during this visit to Victoria that we assisted Bev in discovering that her cancer had returned ... we admired the courage and strength she demonstrated throut both her battles with cancer. We have planted a coral coloured rose bush in our garden in Bev's honour And we know her spirit will live on in our hearts. We want to thank Ernie and all of Bev's dear close friends for all there great care of her over the years and two bouts of cancer. God bless you and keep you safe and in peace beloved Bev. We will miss you dearly as we loved and appreciated you so very much but we rest in knowing you are now free from your suffering and at peace In your new home.
