Alicia Hidalgo
ALICIA DEL CARMEN HIDALGO
(née MAZZEI MOLINA)
February 2, 1944 – November 21, 2022
With heavy hearts, we announce that Alicia passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Deer Lodge Center at the age of 78 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Juan of 59 of years; sons, Christian (Paula), Carlos (Marie), Jorge (Geraldine) and Pablo (Kristen); grandchildren and great grandchildren; extended family and friends in Canada and Chile.
Mom was born in San Bernardo, Chile on February 2, 1944, the second oldest of 5 siblings. Her parents were Raul Mazzei and Maria Flora Molina.
Early in life, mom became the pillar of her family by taking care of her younger brother and sisters and helping manage the family shop. She graduated from high school at the Immaculate Conception Catholic School and excelled in many extracurricular activities including basketball, roller skating and dancing.
Mom then met and married the love of her life, dad, Juan Hidalgo on November 11, 1963. Soon after the family grew with the arrival of Christian and Carlos, the twins in 1964, Jorge in 1966 and Pablo in 1974. During this time and as a result of dad’s career the family moved frequently living in various cities such as Osorno, Puerto Montt, Quillota, Buin and Villa Alemana.
In 1977, the family immigrated to Winnipeg, and once again mom rose to the occasion, quickly becoming the family's fearless leader working at several part time cleaning jobs as well as taking care of the household.
Her pride and joy were definitely her children, later her grandchildren and more recently her great grandchildren.
One of her major accomplishments was to graduate from Red River College and work helping others as a Homecare Attendant.
She loved travelling and for many Winnipeg winters Cuba became her second home. Mom and dad made many friends throughout the years visiting the island.
She also had many talents, as she loved knitting and embroidering and of course gardening.
The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff at Deer Lodge Centre, especially Caroline, Lora, Vanessa, Luz and Shelley for their love and compassion during Mom’s long stay at the facility.
In accordance with dad’s wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
¡Vuela alto mamita! ¡Siempre estarás con nosotros Cuchita!
