MICHAEL HOBAN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Hoban, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, at the age of 70 on Friday, December 29, 2023, surrounded by his family at St. Boniface Hospital.

Mike always had a smile on his face and was happy to see his many friends and loved ones. He had a passion and outstanding knowledge for automobiles. He worked and stood beside Stan and passed his knowledge onto Byron at the family business, Hoban’s Auto where he spent the past 40+ years.

Mike was a fun-loving and generous man. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends whether it was a quick coffee or the odd beverage at the shop or breakfast at his favorite spot. He also had a love for dogs whom he spoiled with treats.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy; their children Byron (Lisa) Hoban, Carol (Bart) Lobb, and Michelle Duma; his grandchildren, Devan Lobb, Dallas Duma and Ryenn Lobb; his sister, Lesley Hoban (Tony Funk); and many family and friends. Mike is predeceased by his parents Stan and Margaret, and grandson, Noah.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on January 17, 2024, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #215, 215 Maxwell King Drive, East St. Paul, MB.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to honour Mike may be made to the NICU Trust through the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba in his grandson Noah’s memory or to a charity of your choice.

My dad was great friends with Mike's dad Stan, and his mom Margaret was in my parent's wedding party waaaaay back. So, I have known Mike since we were both like 3 years old. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing, he was a great guy and will be sorely missed by all I am sure. My deepest and sincerest condolences to Kathy and the family.

My sincere condolences to Kathy & family . I had the great privilege to have Mike as my first waltz  partner when I was 14 years old … of course he was older …It was at my sisters wedding Carolyne Hoban who married John Hoban Mikes cousin. We were paired up together in the wedding party. I was so nervous to dance but I remember how mike had that big smile cracking jokes to make be feel comfortable…  Stan and mike for many years to follow became my car guys .. I’d bring the coffee and donuts they would fix me up ! always took care of my many many cars and always made sure I was safe on the roads. You could pop by anytime and he always had time to take care of me…. I’m sure so many of us share such found memories. Those small moments in life meeting such a kind caring person I’m grateful to say I knew him. Rest in peace mike, save me a dance 🙏 Audra (smith)& Arrigo De Angelis

Mike and Kate adopted a wonderful wiener dog. Socko and I came over to meet their new pup and the next thing you know Mike had organized for us to adopt her brother. The runt of the litter but a plucky dog   Good times and good memories

Going to miss you Mike. My late husband & I have known Mike forever it seems, my first recollection is his Dad's garage on Logan & Weston, and if my memory is correct it was a Saturday and Dad wasn't there, there were a couple of other 567 Club members there, that was the beginning of our friendship with the Hoban Family; Kathy, Byron, Carol & Michelle & now their families.....my deepest sympathy, he will be missed.  ❤
