KEVIN “DALE” HOLM

It is with great sadness that we announce Dale’s sudden passing on June 15, 2026 at 72 years old.

Dale will be lovingly remembered by his wife and the love of his life, “Cookie” Thomasson; his daughter, Andrea Thomasson; his sister, Barb Weik (Albert); his nephews, Dean, Jeffrey, and Kelly; his dear cousin, Mavis; his lifelong friend, Colin Finnsson; and his trusted friend, Carla. He will also be missed by many extended family members, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

If those who knew Dale were asked to describe him in three words, the answer would almost certainly be the same: Smart, Funny, and Kind. Those qualities defined the way he lived his life, the way he treated others, and the lasting impression he left on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Dale grew up on his parents’ farm near Arborg, Manitoba, where he developed a lifelong love of animals and nature. His compassion extended to all living things. In true Dale fashion, he once began parking his car on the street rather than in his garage because a large wasp nest had appeared there and he didn’t want to disturb its inhabitants.

Dale spent most of his professional life in the insurance industry. He worked for many years with Federated Insurance, where he became widely respected for his expertise and knowledge. He later joined Manitoba Public Insurance, first in the General Insurance Division and later managing the broker network across Manitoba and overseeing the Extension line of business. Highly respected by colleagues throughout his career, Dale was known as a trusted advisor, mentor, and problem solver. People regularly sought his perspective, knowing they would receive thoughtful, practical advice.

But as accomplished as he was professionally, it was Dale’s sense of humour that people will remember most. He possessed a brilliant wit and a wonderfully dry, sarcastic sense of humour that could turn even the most difficult situation into something worth laughing about. Time spent with Dale was rarely quiet; his quick observations and clever jokes kept everyone around him smiling. He had a remarkable gift for brightening a room and lifting the spirits of those around him.

Dale had two great friends in his life, Colin and Carla. His lifelong friendship with Colin Finnsson began when they were 10 years old. Growing up together, they shared adventures, mischief, fun and memories that lasted a lifetime. Carla was a steady and constant presence in Dale’s life for more than three decades, and remained a close friend throughout.

A passionate gardener, Dale never lost his connection to his roots. Even after moving to Winnipeg, he continued helping with the large family vegetable garden at the farm. Each year he planted extra rows of vegetables, harvested them himself, and donated the produce to Harvest Manitoba.

It was hard work, but helping others was simply who Dale was.

Dale’s face would light up whenever an animal was nearby, especially dogs. He delighted in their personalities and antics, often laughing at how adorable they were. His kindness toward animals reflected the gentleness and compassion he carried throughout his life.

Then Dale met Cookie. She became the centre of his world. Their love story was filled with laughter, companionship, and unwavering devotion. Together they shared many happy years, and those who knew them could see how deeply they loved one another. Cookie’s sense of humour perfectly matched Dale’s own, and the two could often be found laughing together.

When Cookie and Dale began building their life together, Andrea was just four years old. Family lore has it that the move to Dale’s happened because their cat, Mister, had become so attached to Dale that he didn’t want to leave after their visits.

Dale embraced Andrea as his own daughter from the very beginning. He was a constant presence throughout her childhood, attending T-ball and softball games, practicing with her at the park, helping with schoolwork, and cheering her on every step of the way. As she grew older, he continued to be a source of wisdom, encouragement, and steady support. Dale gave both Andrea and Cookie unconditional love, steadfast support, and a lifetime of laughs.

Dale’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, wisdom, and laughter. He touched countless lives through his friendship, mentorship, humour, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

No formal service will be held. A private family celebration will take place at a later date.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Ashley and the staff at Riverside Lions, as well as Kari, Stacy, Johanna, and the staff at Meadowood Manor, for the exemplary care, kindness, and compassion they provided to Dale.

To honour of Dale’s love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society or to an animal rescue organization of your choice.
