ARTHUR HORBACIO

May 19, 1945 – July 15, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that Art passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2021 at the age of 76.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Carol; children, Carl, Angela (John), and Julie (Andrew); grandchildren, Kyle (Karlee), Tyler (Rachel), Joshua, Braedon, Melanie, Riley, and Alyvia; great-grandchild Brooks; siblings, John (Marcia), Eddy, Dolores, Alice, Carol (Ric), and Marylou (Paul); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Arthur was predeceased by his father Roy, mother Dora, brother Nicholas, and sister Lorraine.

Arthur was born on a family farm in Hamrlik, Manitoba.  The family then moved to Arborg, where Art grew up with his seven siblings.   He made his way to Toronto in the 60’s where he met his future wife Carol and they married in May of 1971.  Together they had 3 children, Carl, Angela, and Julie.

Art started his career with CN in Toronto and was then transferred to Winnipeg in 1974 where the family still currently resides.  He then started his own company as an independent trucker working for CP Railways.

Art was a skilled craftsman that could build anything and took great pride in his work.  He made grandfather clocks for his children, cradles and guitars for his grand-children.  His proudest achievement was helping his son Carl build his cabin from the ground up.  He also enjoyed working on cars and spent many hours fixing and repairing everybody’s vehicles.

He enjoyed spending time at his cabin, which he also built himself, at the Manitoba, Narrows and would usually fly his plane to the cabin and back.  He loved giving plane rides to anyone willing to go up with him.  He would spend many a night playing his violin with family and friends.  He was no stranger to a good party.

He was a very kindhearted generous man who would help anyone at any time.  He had a great love for animals, especially dogs.

As a devoted husband, father, and Gigi, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson more than anything and would give and do anything for them.

Arthur chose to pass away at home and was taken care of by his loved ones in his final weeks.  Thanks to the palliative home care staff for guiding us through this difficult time and always being just a phone call away.

Art will be missed by all who knew him and never forgotten.  He brought so much joy and happiness to all who knew him.

Arthur’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.

My condolences, I worked with Art at CPR and always had an enjoyable time working together throughout the years.  Art was a very easy going person willing to tell many interesting stories.

To Art's entire family, we are so sorry for your loss. My kids call Art "lolo" (grandfather in Filipino). We've been neighbors for almost 7 years and my family considered Art and Carol our 2nd family here in Canada. They are very nice to us and to my kids. I have fond memories with Art as a neighbor like telling jokes about my husband Gilbert when he sees me or asking me how to cook pansit because Carol liked it and he wanted to make one for Carol (and not not to tell Carol that he asked LOL). I saw him once go out and gave Pepsi in can to a Manitoba Hydro guy who was working in front of our front yard because it was too hot that day. You will be missed Art. We pray for healing, strength, peace and comfort for your family. Eternal rest grant unto Art O Lord! And let perpetual light shine upon him. May Art rest in peace🙏
