ANGELINE MARIE THÉRÈSE HOUDE

(née GAMACHE)

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Angeline Marie Thérèse Houde (née Gamache) announces her passing on April 19, 2023, at the age of 84 years.

Angeline grew up on a farm near Laurier, MB. She loved sharing her early life experiences and visited the family homestead often.

On October 4, 1958, she married the love of her life Lucien Houde. Their family grew as they welcomed their first child Michel in 1961, followed by Suzanne in 1962.

Angeline worked as a teller at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Winnipeg, then as a homemaker caring for her family. Later in life she helped manage financial and administrative functions for the consulting business operated from home after Lucien’s retirement.

She was very skilled at knitting, crocheting and sewing, making beautiful quilts for family members to treasure. She enjoyed tending to the garden and enjoyed visiting and hosting relatives in her home. She loved family fishing trips and was an excellent angler. Together with Lucien, she travelled to Europe, Alaska and the Caribbean and took numerous road trips from coast to coast in Canada and the USA.

Angeline’s greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished and loved every moment spent with them and always looked forward to family gatherings.

She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish many fond memories her loving husband of 64 years Lucien; her children, Michel (Anna) and Suzanne (Guido) Dienstbier; grandchildren, Adam Houde, Jordan (Catherine) Houde, Chantal Dienstbier (Rishabh Gopal), and Eric Dienstbier; great-grandchildren, Maxime, Rosalie, Domenic, and a fourth great-grandchild arriving in July.

She leaves many memories to be cherished by surviving siblings, Cyril (Cecile) Gamache of Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, Bibianne (Ron) Plessis of Lumby, BC, Adrien (Judy) Gamache of McCreary, MB, Jean Gamache of Laurier, MB; sisters-in-law, Mary Gamache and Donna Gamache; brother-in-law Jules Saquet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Angeline was predeceased by her Mom, Jeanne (Dupré) and Dad, Philippe Gamache of Laurier, MB; brothers, Gérald, Gérard, Fernand Gamache of Cranbrook, BC, Luc Gamache of MacGregor, MB; and sisters, Denise Saquet (Noel), Sylvia Saquet of Laurier, MB and Marie Gamache.

The family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Health Care Aids at Grace Hospital (3-South) for their professional and compassionate care for Angeline.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Holy Family/Sainte Famille Catholic Church, 774 Archibald Street, Winnipeg. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers her family would sincerely appreciate a memorial contribution to a charity of one’s choice.

Angeline’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Lou, I was so shocked to read about Angie's passing.  You and Angie were such wonderful folks that we got to know through square dancing.  You and Angie always had such wonderful smiles that I will remember forever.   I am extending my sincere sympathy to you and your family, Lou.  Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the service on Tuesday.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time.  Peace be with you.❤

I have fond memories of Angeline and her welcoming spirit.   I remember the many times she would receive me with open arms in her home here in Winnipeg when I was a student in St. Norbert.  Lucien would pick me up on Friday night and I would spend the weekend with them, sometimes babysitting Michel & Suzanne.  Angeline's kind spirit lives in my heart & I will forever remember her as a very loving and caring cousin. ❤

Angeline was a very kind and thoughtful person.  When my Mom (her aunt Alice) went to visit relatives out West, she always picked her up at the airport, welcomed her into her home and treated her like a queen. My condolences to Lucien, Michel, Suzanne and her grandchildren. We will have a Mass celebrated in her memory at her church.

Our deepest condolences to Mon oncle Lucien and the entire family.  Ma tante Angeline will be missed. Going for a « coffee » visit was always so much more.  She always set a huge table of crackers, cheese, meat, dainties etc and wonderful conversations would happen.   ❤
