ARLENE HOURD
April 24, 1965 – December 5, 2024
With heavy hearts, her family sadly shares the passing of Arlene Hourd. Surrounded by loved ones, Arlene began her journey to the spirit world on the morning of Thursday, December 5th, after courageously battling cancer.
Arlene was born in Arborg, Manitoba, on April 24th, 1965, as the second youngest of six cherished children of Paul and Beebe Fedoruk. In 1969, the family made their home in the Charleswood neighbourhood of Winnipeg, where they created countless beautiful memories and formed lifelong friendships. Arlene attended Chapman Elementary and graduated from Oak Park High School in 1983.
Her greatest joy came from being a mother, first in 1984 and then again in 1995. As a protective, loving, and fun mom, she worked tirelessly to create magical moments for her children and made holidays truly special with her unique touch. Whether attending karate classes, band concerts, or softball games, Arlene’s support never wavered. Summers were filled with camping trips, backyard sprinkler parties, and cozy movie nights, highlighting her deep love for her children and commitment to their happiness. The bond she shared with them was incredibly special, and they will carry her love with them forever.
Arlene had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, particularly during the summer. Her beautiful backyard, lovingly maintained thanks to her green thumb, was a source of pride. Fishing was one of her favourite hobbies, and nothing made her happier than spending a day on the beach, soaking up the sun. Travel was a passion that allowed her to explore many wonderful places across North America, from San Francisco and Las Vegas to Atlanta and Niagara Falls, the Bahamas, and beyond. In recent years, she cherished trips to Vancouver, Victoria, and Whistler with her children, creating memories to treasure always. Arlene often dreamed of visiting the beaches of Bora Bora, and we find comfort in knowing that she is now enjoying time there on her spirit journey.
If you’ve ever been to Arlene’s home, you'll know of her playful “Obsessive Cow Disorder." It started with her fondness for a cow-themed kettle out at the farm in Anola. After receiving one as a gift, her passion for all things cow print flourished. When you see anything with the delightful theme, you immediately think of her. A creative spirit, Arlene had a talent for adding her personal touch to everything she did, whether it was flower arranging, gift-wrapping or holiday decorations. Her stylish outfits and beautiful hairstyles reflected her inner beauty just as much as her kindness and warmth made everyone feel accepted and valued. Arlene was always there for anyone who needed her.
With the most sought-after dish at any gathering, "Arlene's Ham," she delighted in cooking and was quite the chef. From her famous Greek salad to her homemade honey dijon, cooking was an expression of her joy; she would often dance around the kitchen, revelling in the moment. When her favourite songs came on, she would stop everything, grab a wooden spoon as a microphone, and dance as if no one were watching, embodying pure joy and love for life.
Arlene was blessed with a large, loving family, and her siblings were her best friends throughout her life. Their strong bond extended to their children, who share in the gratitude for their closeness. Family was always Arlene's priority, instilled in her by her loving parents. Arlene leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her mother, Beebe Fedoruk; her devoted partner of nearly 25 years, Mike Bebak; her beloved children, Jennifer Ptashnik and Raymond Hourd and stepdaughter, Megan Bebak (Phil); her siblings, Ken Lamirande (brother-in-law), Carol (Tim) de Delley, Paulette (Dave) Speer, and Darren Fedoruk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. She was truly surrounded by love throughout her life. Welcoming her into their arms on the other side are her father, Paul Fedoruk; her sister, Linda Lamirande; her brother, Larry Fedoruk; and her nephew, Timothy McLean.
We know you're singing and dancing in the kitchens of heaven, happy and free from all pain. Your passing leaves a wound no one can heal; your love leaves a mark no one can steal. We're not yet sure how to do this life without you, but you were the strongest of us, and in your honour, we will mirror that strength and keep your memory alive. Rest in Peace, Mom, Aunty Arlene, Neener Beaner, Baby Girl. You will be loved always.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her honour.
Arlene’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
