CURTIS PAUL HOURD

January 3, 1960 – September 7, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce Curtis’ sudden passing, with his loving family beside him in St. Boniface Hospital on Monday September 7, 2020 at the age of 60 years.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife Colleen; children Chase (Kyleigh) and Cass (Riley); cherished granddaughter Quinn; parents Gerry and Paulette; brother Rodney (Colleen); favourite aunt June (Rene); nephews Adam and Colin; auntie Donna; in-laws Darlene (Leo), Roy, Crystal (Larry), Wendy, Gwen (Peter), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Curtis is predeceased by his brother Ray; his grandparents and his mother-in-law Mary.

Curtis was the middle child of three boys. He grew up in St. Vital, attended Woodlawn Elementary School, Minnetonka and Dakota Collegiate. His family later moved to Ile Des Chenes, where he attended Lorette Collegiate. He was very active in in sports, especially hockey, playing for the St.Vital Victorias (MMJHL). He was also very active in the community of Ile Des Chenes, coaching and being part of the executive community at the sports centre.

He worked at Safeway for 33 years in Manitoba and Ontario ending his career as store manager, after which he went on to start his own business.

Curtis and Colleen were married in September of 1988. Chase was born in 1991 and then their second son, Cass, in 1992. Curtis and Colleen decided to build their new home next to his parents home in Ile Des Chenes. Curtis’ passions later in life were golfing, fishing and most of all his backyard pool. Curtis was so happy when he became a grandfather, he cherished every moment with his granddaughter Quinn. Curtis was an incredibly special person, always happy and always wanting a good game of cards.

Curtis’ family would like to thank the Ile Des Chenes EMT and all the staff at CCU and ICSM at St. Boniface Hospital.

Due to Covid-19, a celebration of life will be held at Curtis' home for family and friends, at a later date. In the meantime, Curtis’ family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing memories, stories and photos in the comments section of this page. All are greatly appreciated

Curtis was a beloved and cherished friend of ours (The Haller Family). Curtis and Kens friendship spanned over 50 years, meeting as young children in St. Vital. Their bond, which was more like a brotherhood than a friendship continued into adulthood, sharing many fond memories together. We shared many trips to Mexico together, where we made memories we still laugh about to this day. When we remember Curtis, what stands out the most is his light heartedness and sense of humour-a characteristic that never changed throughout his entire life. We were fortunate enough to see Curtis 1 week before he fell ill. He talked about what was most important to him, his family, and as usual he made us laugh. We are so thankful for that last visit. Our thoughts and prayers are with Colleen, Chase , Cass and the entire family as we grieve this loss with you.  Ken, Pam, Ashley Haller

My deepest condolences to Colleen, Chase, Cass, Gerry & Paulette. I’m so saddened by your passing Curtis. You have left a big void and it won’t be the same not having you next door. You always had a smile on your face and I’m so grateful to have known you. You were a great friend and the best neighbor I could have asked for. Rest in peace, friend.

We are sincerely saddened by Curtis' passing.  When we came to Winnipeg in 1975, Curtis and Dale were each aged 17 - just seems like yesterday. Hourds were then still living on Woodlawn Avenue and we moved in just down the street.  Both boys were going to Dakota Collegiate at the time.  We saw Curtis often, sometimes unexpectedly he'd come up from the basement bedroom but we didn't know he was there.  He was like one of our own.  In later years we didn't see as much of him but we did attend he and Colleen's wedding in Dryden and anytime we ran into him since, it was as if he "still that kid we knew!"  He will be missed and was taken far too soon.  Our condolences to all the family and connections.

The loss of Curtis has been heartbreaking for all of his family and friends.  He was a happy easy going big hearted man. Loved family coming in the summer for pool time. Winter was about the Jets and organizing  the hockey pool, he did up for all the teams. Colleen was the love of his life ❤.  He was very active in his boys hockey games.  He cherish his boys and Quinn. Our family loved him so much and will be missed profoundly.  💔

“Love is the most important thing in the world, but hockey is pretty good too.” ~ Uncle Curtis would have agreed, but he is no longer with us. My family will miss him dearly. Sending heartfelt condolences to all who are morning his loss. Rest In Peace Uncle Curtis. ❤️
