ANELIA JOSEPHINE HUMNISKY

1939 - 2024

On December 6th, 2024, Anelia Josephine Humnisky passed away peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded in love by her family and friends. Anelia leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 37 years, Brian Humnisky; her daughter Maureen (Robert); son Glendon; grandchildren Sarah and Jason, all who she was very proud of. Also left to cherish her memory are her grand-dogs Bella and Winston Furchill; many nieces, nephews, and many special family members and close friends.

She now reunites in eternal peace with her parents, Frank & Stella; and her beloved brother Frank.

Anelia was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1939. She attended Mulvey School and graduated high school from Gordon Bell. She went on to study nursing and graduated from St. Boniface Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She specialized in geriatric nursing for the majority of her 40-year career, working at the Misericordia Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, and Holy Family Nursing Home where she developed many lifelong friendships. After retirement, Anelia volunteered many hours at the St. Boniface Hospital Gift Shop.

During our warm summers, Anelia would be found at the cottage in Grand Marais, Manitoba, hosting many Happy Hours and family events, attending the beautiful sunsets and volunteering in the community. She was a true Winnipeg sports fan; she was so happy when the Winnipeg Jets returned and was a proud season ticket holder for many years. Anelia and Brian spent several winters in Arizona and also travelled to many different locations. Her favourite places to visit were Las Vegas, Hawaii, and the Dominican Republic. She also enjoyed many casino bus trips. She spent many Black Fridays in Fargo and Grand Forks shopping with her family and friends. This had become a treasured family tradition. You could also always find Anelia at the hair salon every week, getting her hair and nails done.

In her leisure time, Anelia enjoyed reading, watching Turner Classic Movies (her favourite movie was Breakfast at Tiffany’s), listening to Elvis Presley, Michael Bublé or Rod Stewart and baking for her grandkids. She was a huge animal lover and enjoyed her time with her most recent dog Sugar, and spending time with all her grand dogs.

A special thank you to the Grace Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care. A special thank you to her long-time family Doctor, Dr. Wayne Manishen.

A special thank you to Lino Correia, a close family friend for all the work and maintenance he did on the cottage over the last 5 years, and for his years of friendship.

A private burial will be held for immediate family.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Facility).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to K9 Advocates, or either the Grace Hospital, or St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, in her memory.

Anelia’s family kindly requests that all her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

My deepest Sympathy to the family of Anellia. I worked as evening spervisor alongside Anelia for a few years. She was a lovely woman with whom I enjoyed a lot of talks and laughs with.. She like to talk about her children and it was easy to see how much she loved and cared about them.. No longer by our side to share but in our memory she will always dwell there.
