JOYCE HUMPHREYS

On December 3, 2022, Joyce Ethel Humphreys passed away peacefully at the age of 81.

She is survived by her husband John; children, Sandra (Jon) and Doug (Sharleen); grandchildren, Taylor, Tristen, and Jesse; brothers, Alan, Alfred, and Andy; and life-long friend Yvonne.

A loving and supportive mother, she was totally devoted to her family. She was a sociable, outgoing person who was a considerate friend to so many and always seemed to know just about everyone in the community. A quick trip to the mall would often run long because she would bump into her many friends. A fun-loving individual, Joyce will be fondly remembered for her commitment to community-based youth programming including Scouts Canada and parent-organized school fundraisers. She dedicated her professional life to children with her many years of employment in the Louis Riel School Division as an EA at Dr. D.W. Penner School.

After retirement, her love of children remained steadfast as she showered her grandchildren with time, affection, and attention. She loved babysitting and taking them to the park when they were small. Her playful nature and innate ability to connect with children always brought out their giggles and smiles. Their ‘Nana’ was always fun and never failed to keep a hidden stash of popcorn twists for the grandkids. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the staff of Vista Park Lodge for their compassionate care, positive communications, and unwavering support of Joyce.

Interment will take place at Carman Greenwood Cemetery later in the summer of 2023.

To John Humphreys and family,  seeing Joyce's smiling face brings very fond memories of her at the Gimli race track during Vintage Race weekends. She was such a positive and pleasant lady, friendly, supportive and joyful as she gave the thumbs up to the drivers at the start of each race. She also eagerly showed the scrapbook she had created about the Gimli Glider landing in 1983 right at that race track and had the story to go along with her experience. Seeing Joyce's obituary is quite sad and our thoughts reach out to you. Those were great memories of her and we are thinking of you.

Remember memories of Joyce coming to Clear Lake on May long weekends to help at  the early days of the Pizza Place in Wasagaming. Thinking of you John and family.
