HELEN HUTCHINSON

(née STOKOTELNY)

November 15, 1931 – April 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Helen Hutchinson, on April 4th after a long, beautiful life.

Helen was born in Dauphin Manitoba and eventually moved to Winnipeg where she met her future husband, Gerry. They finally settled in St Vital and happily raised three daughters. Summer holidays were spent in a small trailer making for a close-knit family.

Helen had a fulfilling career at CBC and during her retirement she spent many hours enjoying friends and family. Mom’s love of music was apparent as she always had a tune playing in her home. She loved travelling and the simple pleasures of life. She was active in a bowling league well into her 80’s with her good friends from Wakefield Bay. She loved the challenge of daily Wordle and got it in one try last year! She took numerous trips to visit family and loved going to the cottage at West Hawk Lake. She also enjoyed taking all the family dogs for walks. Mom had a zest for life that she maintained throughout her 92 years.

She is sadly missed by her daughters Linda and Paul Irvine, Sharon and Rusty Miller, Nancy and Dean Abrassart and their families. Helen was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend our thanks for the loving care mom received in her final weeks in the Palliative Care ward in the St Boniface Hospital.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Life will be held for immediate family at a later date.

Helen’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Helen's desk in the CBC Arts and Music Department was close to mine. It was an oasis of calm, aughter and competence. She was a terrifically supportive colleague.. She also classed up the joint --always impeccably turned out. One day we needed the sound of high heels clicking on a floor for a radio olay. Helen was the only one of us in heels and cheerfully clicked on cue. I remember her smile.

to the Hutchinson family,

We were so very sorry to learn of Helen's passing.  We were your mom and dad's neighbors on Wakefield Bay, and we came to know them personally and then to learn about their wonderful daughters through the stories and proud moments they would share with us..  Dad Gerry nicknamed our daughter Jennifer "Jennifer Juniper" and would sing that song to her as he would let her walk beside him on his morning walk.  To this day (40+ years later) our family still calls her "Nipper".

Helen was an elegant, beautiful person inside and out.  We know your memories will keep her close in your hearts

All our love is with you Sharon as you remember your beautiful mother, a true lady who carried herself with grace.  What a lovely and touching photo-video tribute!  It beautifully portrays the depth of your relationship and the bond between a mother and her daughters and families.
