ELAINE PATRICIA INKSTER

(née KILGOUR)

March 11, 1946 - September 25, 2022

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elaine Patricia Inkster age 76, on September 25 2022 at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Elaine was predeceased by her parents George and Mary Kilgour. She leaves behind her husband of 47 years Carter, her sister Judy, her brother Howard and brother-in-law John Inkster.

Elaine was born in Winnipeg Canada and grew up in fort Garry. She attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a Bachelor of Home Economics and a Bachelor of Education. Her ensuing career in teaching began with Peguis First Nation, Ebb and Flow First Nation and Kinsmen School. She finally settled into a job with Winnipeg School Division #1 and would spend the rest of her career as a Special Education/ Resource and Transition teacher. Elaine’s love of teaching was clearly evident from her caring and dedication to her students. Even after retiring, Elaine continued part-time in a diverse number of teaching positions.

Many enjoyable summers were spent at her parents’ cottage on White Lake. She also loved travelling, whether it be trips across Canada and the USA (Hawaii) or cruising the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Alaska.

Having a very keen interest in all things dog-related Elaine was an avid participant and competitor in a number of dog-related activities, from her early years to her passing. She will be greatly missed by our Shelties Lexie and Morgan.

No funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Cancer Care Manitoba, the Manitoba Arthritis Society and the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Elaine’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I taught with Elaine years ago at Montrose School. She was a super colleague and she was a so helpful. She shared her resources and wisdom with me, a first year teacher at the time. Over the years we would bump into each other once in a while, the last time when she was a volunteer at the Victoria Hospital Emergency department when I was there with a family member a few years ago. Condolences to Elaine's family. She was a great lady! So sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences to Elaine’s family. I taught with Elaine at Carpathia School. She was a good support and cared about her students.   Years later, whenever I saw her, she always had that warm welcoming smile. Rest In Peace. Wendy Morris Former colleague

Elaine will be missed dearly.  She always had a ready smile when she saw you.  She was an active member of both the Canadian Sheltie Association as well as the Winnipeg Sheltie Association and was always willing to be part of any activities involving the Shelties with a helping hand.

Heartfelt condolences to Carter and all who new Elaine so well. Elaine and I met through our mutual love of Shelties and particularly her involvement with the Canadian Shetland Sheepdog Association. I admired her long standing commitment to all things Sheltie. I always felt welcomed to a conversation with her when we'd have a rare chance to see each other in person. I imagine her enjoying the highest of scores in heaven along with all her loved Shelties who went before her. As it should be.

I first met Elaine and Carter about 25 years ago. Of course it was through our shared love of shelties. Since our first meeting, Elaine, Carter, Cam and I became good friends, often sharing stories at dinner parties, barbeques and bonfires. Elaine always had a smile on her face. She never complained about her health, but always asked after everybody else’s. She was a very caring, kind, and compassionate person. She is greatly missed.  Godspeed Elaine. Your troubles are over. With love, Sherrie

Elaine was generous in sharing her knowledge about dogs, and very kind. She helped Rylie, my sheltie, feel safe at training classes; he responded immediately to her outstretched hand. She was always an understanding and helpful friend. Her many colleagues and friends and students will never forget her.

Like so many others, I knew Elaine through our love of dogs, often sitting outside the obedience ring together, along with Alice Sparrow. She always greeted me with a big smile and we’d have a chat, usually about dogs of course, especially shelties. My condolences to Carter and family. Such a beautiful lady. She will be missed.

We were neighbours for thirty-five years. Elaine's big heart was matched by her beautiful smile. We did a lot of talking during lunch outings, shared dinners, many hospitable next-door garden visits with her and Carter, and chatting over the fence. She was always kind and compassionate,  smart and brave. It was always a pleasure to be with her. Her presence made the world a better place. RIP, Elaine, you will be missed.

I met Elaine when we were in the same class at university but didn't know her very well then. We reconnected some years later when we discovered we both had Shelties. Elaine faced life with courage and determination, never letting anything stand in the way of what she wanted to do. She loved her family, friends and her Shelties. Elaine was a true friend to me over so many years, She was always available for a friendly chat or to answer a Sheltie question. I have so many cherished memories of the time Elaine and I spent together. I will sadly miss Elaine's presence in my life. My thoughts are with Carter and family.
