MATTHEW KINGSLEY ISAAK

June 1, 2009 – February 21, 2020

On February 21, 2020 our sweet, kind, bright, wise, loving, joyful person Matthew Kingsley left the physical body that could no longer support his spirit.

Matthew’s legacy of love, joy and kindness will be carried on by his mom and dad, Clare and Jordan; Grandparents, Valerie, George, Bruce and Calla; Great-Grandparents, Margaret, Peter and Helen; Aunt, Uncle and Nephews, Gabrielle, Dan, Austin and Bryn; his large extended family; many, many best friends, classmates, teachers and community at École Marie Anne Gaboury; his friends and teachers from Soul Kids and the congregation of Soul Sanctuary; his teammates in soccer and hockey; and countless friends who knew him and loved him.

Matthew loved life more than most, and had a knack for living gracefully. From a very young age he knew the importance of community and friendship. Matthew was the best teammate, and friend you could have. His enthusiasm and easygoing nature made any time you spent with him feel effortless and perfect.

Nine short months ago, Matthew was diagnosed with a Diffuse Midline Glioma, an aggressive brain tumour that primarily affects children, has a survival rate of less than 1%, and for which there is no standard treatment. Thanks to support from his exceptional community, he was able to receive non-traditional treatments in the comfort of his home, that improved his quality of life so that he was able to enjoy the things he loved most. Sadly, as a result of tumour growth patterns and the toll of the tumour and medication on his physical abilities, he never became eligible for treatment trials.

Friends and relatives are encouraged to share memories, stories, and/or condolences for the family by using the comment section on this page.

A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at Soul Sanctuary, 2050 Chevrier Boulevard in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Due to the Covid-19 concerns the time and date of service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Maddox’s Warriors to support childhood brain cancer research, or Team Brody Foundation to directly support families of children with cancer.

Clare, Jordan, Bruce and Calla.  What a beautiful slideshow with highlights of Mathew, thank you for sharing that with everyone.  We can't begin to imagine what each of you are feeling everyday.  Please know you are in our hearts and our thoughts.  Mathew was such a wonderful young man, my favorite memory will always be of him dancing all night long at Fiona and Jay's wedding.  My second favorite memory will be of walking back to our vehicles after the rehearsal and me thinking I was talking to Clare..then turning to Mathew and saying "where did you mom go?"  He turned and pointed, Clare was leaning over the garden at Fort Gibraltar, I commented that Clare must have seen a sparkly and wandered off and he says..."Yah..she always does that".  It was so sweet and so funny it made me smile.  Those are two of my favorite Mathew memories.  there is no doubt that he touched many lives and will forever be missed.

❤Dear Clare and Jordan,  What a beautiful tribute to our dear Matthew! We are wiping away the tears again. There will be such a hole in our hearts and our homes without Matthew there. We always learn things from our children, as we did from Matthew, like the name and details of every car you could think of. But I think the most amazing thing that Matthew taught us is graciousness, even graciousness under the worst of circumstances. His calm and pleasant attitude and ongoing politeness was truly amazing! Clare and Jordan, your care for him through his illness was also amazing and a beautiful example for us all. Thank you for doing all that you did to make Matthew’s life a happy and beautiful one, and for sharing that with us. Love, Auntie Kristin and Uncle Earl

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. A.A Milne We miss Matthew so very much. There are no words I can write that can come close to describing how much he meant to us. He was such a kind, gentle, intelligent, and patient kiddo, I am blessed that Q and I got to spend the time that we did with him, and build wonderful memories of all of our adventures together over the last 9 years. He taught us so many things in his short life, even up until the end. (Darth Vader)❤ Life wont ever be the same, but hopefully we can take Matthew's message of love and kindness out into the world and make this world into the kind of place he would want it to be.

Matthew was an immediately likeable child. He had such a range of interests and so much knowledge about the things he was interested  in, it was a pleasure talking to him about the things he loved (cars, science etc). We were always astounded at his knowledge about the world and the things he loved. He was kind, thoughtful, and treated everyone around him with respect and care. We have learned so much about living from him and he will impact our lives forever in a positive way. Love Elizabeth and Brandin Stoesz

One of my best memories was the time we rocked the talent show! We were the Jets vs the Habs and wore our jerseys, pretty sure Matthew won but we both had an awesome time. Matthew and I even did a couple practice runs for our hockey shootout before the actual show, which was equally as fun 😀. I always had fun with him, no matter what we did together. I miss him, always will 💙. Carter

Clare, Jordan, Bruce, Calla and little Bennie,  We are so terribly sorry to hear of Matthew's passing. We always enjoyed seeing photos of Matthew and hearing stories of how smart, kind and fun he was from Bruce and Calla when they would come to the lake. You could tell without ever even having met him that he was a really special kid. You are all clearly very special people to have brought up a kiddo like him.  Sending you all our most heartfelt thoughts - Kendall McLean and Luke
