SVEND JACOBSON

March 1, 1926 – April 17, 2021

The family of Svend Jacobsen are sad to announce the passing of Svend on April 17, 2021 at the age of 95.

Svend will be greatly missed by his beloved, Jo-Ann; his sons, Perry, Erik, Thomas, and Paul (Alanna); as well as grandchildren, Joy, Alexis, Aaron, Tyler and Hailey. Svend will also be missed by his extended family, Helen, Kyle (Lia), Kathryn (Jason), the Graham family and more friends than can be named here, but especially Jim (Bern). He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Emmy, and son, Andy.

Svend was born in Denmark. He moved to Canada, became a Canadian citizen and considered Canada his home. However, a number of years ago, He tried to find his Danish family. Hopefully Svend and friend, Diane, will succeed now. We are sure Svend is now enjoying time with Emmy and Andy, as well as being able to go for a walk with Shelby and Holly.

Svend always had a smile for everyone, especially the ladies, who came to 36. He had a great sense of humour, even being a Chippendale server for Jo-Ann’s Dinner parties. He gave and received great hugs which he greatly missed when Covid hit. He loved entertaining, being a perfect host. We were blessed to be able to have our last party at the house in 2020 where, because of Covid, many people saw Svend for the last time.

Svend loved spending Christmas Eve with his family, with the wonderful red cabbage and other Danish traditions. Christmas Day was spent with Jo-Ann’s family with their traditions. Boxing Day was the most special day at Erik’s with more Danish traditions. Time spent with Helen (Jo-Ann’s Mom) was special for Svend.

Svend enjoyed travelling. He went to Hawaii 3 times, Disney World 3 times, California 4 times, Vegas twice, Mexico and went on 4 cruises, two of them being quilting cruises where he was the star person. Also made it to the tip of Vancouver Island and to the Maritimes. Of course, there were many trips to Grand Forks to spend in the hot tub while Jo-Ann went hunting for material. He also loved attending quilt shows with Jo-Ann.

The cottage was a very special place for Svend where he created a beautiful garden and spent time with family and friends. He was known for his pancakes on Sunday mornings. 36 was the place Svend loved, spending the summers in the gazebo on the King’s throne, gardening and enjoying the pool, especially watching all the kids playing in the water and going in out of the gazebo, and, of course, entertaining many. And always with his glass of wine or a beer with Jim.

The family would like to thank the staff on 5 North at the Victoria Hospital, especially Meaghan and Nicole.

Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, there will be no celebration of Svend’s life at this time. A celebration will be held when it is safe to do so.

Jim and I will truly miss our friend, Svend!  We enjoyed our numerous dinner parties with Jo-Ann and Svend, ending our evening with a card game, where Svend was always the score keeper adding up our scores in his head. Dinner and cards in the gazebo in Jo-Ann’s backyard was always a favourite on our hot summer nights, especially with the pool shimmering behind us. The pool area hosted many great times for my Girls and subsequently my Grandchildren. The Graham family and their Spouses were always welcomed by both Jo-Ann and Svend.  These are memories that are truly special and we will treasure them always. Hugs to you Jo-Ann and know that Svend is in all our thoughts.❤ Bern & Jim
