ROCHELLE ELIZABETH ASHLEIGH JACOBSON

July 8, 1994 – August 28, 2020

With heavy hearts, we announce that Rochelle passed away on August 28, 2020, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 26.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Brian Slobodian; children Ethan and Miles; parents Kelly and Christine Jacobson; sister and brother-in-law Victoria and Chris Inkster; as well as extended family and friends.

Rochelle was born in Calgary, Alberta and spent her childhood growing up there. As a child she was always vivacious and brought excitement everywhere she went.

Rochelle moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2013, where she met her husband Brian. She showed a tremendous amount of perseverance by finishing school and graduating in 2016. In June of 2017, with the birth of her oldest son Ethan, she became a Mom. Rochelle always cared for children and had a nurturing heart. Brian and Rochelle married in 2018 and brought their second son, Miles, into the world in March of 2019.

Rochelle had a free spirit, contagious smile and an enormous heart. She was one of the most outgoing people and she shared her passion for life through her energy and excitement. She showed generosity to everyone she met. Rochelle cared for anyone who needed her help but especially animals that needed rescuing. One of Rochelle’s favourite things to do was be on the road; everyone knew Rochelle as the girl on the go. She loved to travel, explore and live her life to the fullest.

The legacy of Rochelle’s kindness, compassion of animals, contagious smile and free spirit will be carried on through her children, who were the pride and joy of her life. We will remember Rochelle by one of her favourite quotes: “When you can’t find the sunshine be the sunshine”.

In keeping with Rochelle's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of her life will be held and you are invited to participate by live-stream at calgarycentraladventist.ca at 11:00 a.m. (MDT) on Sunday, September 27, 2020. In the meantime, Rochelle's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

I met Katie at a Blue Bomber game in 2017 as a friend of my brother in law Wade. She was always pleasant and fun to be around. I ended up having so much fun I bought season tickets the next year. She even made it to my place for a visit for a backyard fire in summer of 2020. Katie was kind and I'm sorry for her passing too soon. Rest in peace. Scott Borgfjord

It's been 6 months since I hear your voice, 6 months since I saw your smile. My only regret is that If I had known that the last time I saw you, would be the last time I saw you, I would have hugged you a little tighter, told you I loved you a little louder and stayed by your side a little longer. I never would have hung up the phone that night if I had known it would be the last time I spoke to you. My mind knows that you are gone, but my heart has not accepted it’s been 6 months and I miss you so much.

It is heartbreaking to realize this is for real and Rochelle is gone. She was always the happiest kid who certainly loved deeply and cared for others. She also loved her pets. We will always remember her and send our love to Brian and the boys, Kelly and Christine and Victoria and Chris. One of my favorite memories of Rochelle is bringing the puppy down for Christmas day and her stuffing him in the Christmas stocking. It was so much fun. Rest in peace sweet girl. Love from Uncle Merv and Aunt Tracy

Katie is how we knew her, was a fun, outgoing, energetic girl.  We got to know her quite well from the numerous visits we had. I will always remember the good times we had.  Especially going to the Bomber games and silently wondering when we played Saskatchewan who was she really cheering for.  You will be very missed Rest In Peace . Love Aunty Shirley and Uncle Kelvin

Very sad to hear of the passing of Rochelle. She was always an energetic, outgoing, compassionate, fun friend to spend time with. Either while camping at Brereton with family and friends or while working as a waitress she always greeted me and others with her beautiful smile. So many good times cut too short. Katie will be missed by many. Rest In Peace.

Life is too busy for most people and then they are gone. Rochelle and Brian were a late addition to our lives, living in Winnipeg and us not even knowing. Our annual fishing trip was always a lot of fun. we will miss her and hope that the annual fishing trip in the near future will include the boys and Brian. If there is anything you need Brian you know we are there for you.

It was a great pleasure getting to know her, as she introduced herself to me as Katie.  I met her through a close group of friends and she became my friend too, even though I don't know her very well.  She was a very kind person and it was really nice getting to know her when I did.  She always gave compliments, talked about her family, church, looking after children and came to girls nights out where she met one of my closest friends.  I ended up going to her wedding social with the girls and that's where I introduced her to my partner at the time.  I enjoyed going to her kombucha party to try some tea; where I met her dogs and her two sons.  She was a lovely person with a good heart.  She will be missed  and was loved by all whose lives she touched.

Katie (Rochelle) was such a champion. I was there with her while she birth Miles and she is still described as the most empowering and fast birth in all of the births I’ve attended. She was always checking in on me and we’d have the weirdest conversations late into the night. Wed share outfit options and songs on the radio and it’s so strange not having those snapchats anymore. I miss her like crazy and my condolences to Brian, Miles, Ethan and the rest of her family.

I will never forget the day she brought my daughter Elora (whom she was babysitting) to me at work so I could visit with her whilst her mother and I were at odds. I'll never forget that ❤

Katie and I first met in May 2015 and we became friends instantly. She was a great friend and I will miss her dearly. The picture I added was from July 7th, 2018, when Katie first became a Bomber season ticket holder. I miss you and I love you... R.I.P ❤
