KLARA JARRIN

1944-2022

Klára was born in Csúrog, Vojvodina, in present-day Serbia.  She grew up on a farm and enjoyed many adventures, especially when she would visit her cousins, Mancika and Boriska, in Tiszakálmánfalva.  Klára was involved in the Hungarian community and participated in various activities, including playing handball and water polo, folk dancing and she was a scout with the Külföldi Magyar Cserkészszövetség (Hungarian Scouts).

Klára studied chemistry and upon graduation, moved to Paris, France, where she worked in pharmaceutical research at Roussel Uclaf.  Klára then immigrated to Canada, where she worked in the endocrinology research laboratory at the Université de Montréal.  After moving to Winnipeg, Klára enjoyed a 34-year career working in oil seeds research with the Canadian Grain Commission.

Klára met her husband, Manuel, in Montreal and moved to Winnipeg where they raised their children, Manuel Jr, Phillippe, Isabelle, and Stéphane.  She will be missed by her children, son-in-law Cory, daughter-in-law Jo Jo, grandchildren André, Jeunesse, and Vida, her extended family, and her close friends Christiane, Véronique, and Bernard.

Klára was a remarkable woman and enjoyed many passions in life, including travel, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.  Klára will most fondly be remembered for sharing stories about her adventures near and far, her great generosity, and her quick wit and great sense of humour – be it in any of the 8 languages she spoke.

On August 16, 2022, Klára passed away at Riverview Health Centre with her family by her side.

The family is grateful to the staff in the Palliative Care program, especially to her visiting nurse Shawn and health care aide Tiffany.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 29th at Norwood Community Centre, 87 Walmer Street, from 1030 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

A donation in her memory has been made to the Cancer Care Foundation of Manitoba.

We really got to know your mom 24 years ago, when she hosted our whole family out at her cabin, and we all camped there on the property next door, with our trailers, Campers and tents, which was right after your and Cory’s wedding. She was such a strong, happy lady, and had the biggest compassionate heart, and yes her stories were so interesting that you got a history lesson and you didn’t even know it. Isabelle I can’t imagine how you’re feeling…..I care and love you so much and feel very blessed to be your mother-in-law…..your mother taught you to be a strong woman, so I know you will slowly get through this very rough time. ❤️❤️

That smile is what I will remember of Klara. Any time my work at the Grain Research Lab took me to Klara's lab she would have a smile and a story to share. As a great reader myself I was always asking Klara what she was reading because she was never without a book in her hand. My condolences to her family whom she often mentioned. It was obvious she loved you very much.

Klara was such an inspiring lady with a kind heart, a great sense of humour and an incredible strength of character. We are so grateful that we were her friends and she kept in touch over the years. She will definitely be missed and may she Rest In Peace. 💕🦋 “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” - Maya Angelou

Isabelle, reading your Mom's obituary shows what an amazing person she was. You too are amazing, your Mom clearly had an influence on the woman you have become. Hug your family and cherish your memories.
