CAROL ANN JOBA

We are extremely sad to announce the sudden death of our Mum and Grandma, Carol, on Friday, January 6, 2023, after a very brief illness. 

She is survived by her children Shelley (Lonnie), Lorne (Lorna), Craig (Pam).  Grandchildren Brittany (Dave), Matthew, Ashlyn (Dylan), Sierra (Dillon), Ethan (Dakota), Cale, Carson, Emma. Great grandchildren Max & Caleb.   Her brother Gary (Irene), in-laws Wally (Louise) & nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by our Dad Adam Joba and her Mum Georgina Fridfinnson.

Born September 11, 1943 she and her brother were raised by their Mother Georgina. Although times were tough, they remained close to each other.  She met our Dad at a dance in 1961, and were married in June 1962.  The following year Shelley was born, followed by Lorne in 1964.  It wasn’t till 1971 that Craig completed our family. 

In her early years she worked at Eaton’s Downtown, but once she was married and her children were born, she stayed home to raise her children.  Growing up we were the ‘lucky’ kids who had a ‘Mom’ at home and we loved her baking, especially fresh baked cookies.

Many years were spent at the farm while Dad worked the fields of his family homestead. Our parents planted and harvested the large garden every year where we grew up with lots of homemade pickles and let’s not forget strawberry picking trips to make her jam.

She loved to travel and took many family road trips to the US, out west, and down to Disneyland.  She loved Disney and travelled 3 times to Disney World.  Hawaii was a bucket list and she went twice. She also ventured on a road trip with Dad to Alaska as well as to the Dominican and Nova Scotia with a friend.

Once all of us were in school she went back to work.  First, she worked and managed a KFC, then Eaton’s Polo Park in customer service, later a transfer to Eaton’s Garden City customer service and lastly in customer service with Canada Post.

In retirement, she helped Shelley with her Tupperware office and weekly meetings, greeting everyone at the front table.

The last few years were spent close to home in her condo along the Seine River where she enjoyed the scenery including the daily deer trail past her window. She loved visitors, especially her grandchildren and grand puppies.  She loved spending time with all her grandkids and helped her family whenever she could.

She was devoted to her faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and held many friendships over the years, especially in the River Park congregation where she believed in the hope of resurrection found in Revelation 21:4
