LESTRA JANICE JOBES
April 15, 1937 – July 31, 2023
With heavy hearts, we announce that Lestra passed away on July 31st of 2023 in the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 86.
She is survived by in her immediate Family in marriage: her Husband John L. Jobes and her children: David, Bill and his Spouse Ryah and Bill's children, Leslie, Steve and his Spouse Pam and their children and Angela and her spouse Kelly; and by her birth Family, (MacPherson): Jessie, Alda, Ron and Art; and was predeceased by: her son-in-law, Leslie's love of her life, Wayne; her Daughter-in- law, David's dearly departed Wife, Dee; and Daughter-in-law, Bill's beloved wife, Helen Jobes (née Hélène Gaudreault); and by Lestra's parents William & Edna; and her siblings Anna, Eileen and Bob.
Lestra was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on April 15th, 1937. Lestra was a devoted loving wife with her husband John, and she was a loving Mother of five children and doting Grandmother of five Grandchildren. We all have so many treasured memories of her; all of which encapsulate the wonderful women she was. Those who knew her will tell you stories about a person who loved meeting new people and who would smile and greet each person she stood in line with at the grocery store or sat beside on a bus. Lestra was a lovingly self-sacrificing person and the most wonderful mother. Lestra loved taking care of people, and she was incredibly hardworking. She taught her children to be hard working, and to value education, but mostly she taught her children how important it is to care for others. When Lestra was young, she was educated in secretarial training; later in life she enjoyed showing her grandchildren how to write in shorthand. With Lestra being such a hard working and caring person, it seemed a natural fit that she would work as a health care aide. Lestra received her Health Care Aide diploma from Red River College and worked for many years taking care of seniors at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home, and then at Golden Door Geriatric Centre. The work was hard, but she cherised the many relationships she developed and she enjoyed sharing stories with all the people she met. Lestra found joy from caring for others.
Lestra loved her family so much, and she had a tireless determination to take care of her family. Later in life, she still displayed this incredible strength and devotion to her family, and this fierce love that pushed her to continue providing care for others, even when her own health was starting to fail. Lestra took care of her husband John right up until the final months of her life. Lestra Jobes was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to us all.
Rest in Peace mom. Your strength and love continue to hold us together and provides with the guidance that we desperately need at this time. Even in passing, you are there for us.
Thank you to all of our family and friends for all your thoughtful, loving, caring support that you have extended to us during this time of sorrow.
With Loving Gratitude
In Accordance with Lestra's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
