Mabel Johnson

MABEL STACE JOHNSON
1940-2025
Mabel was born in Neepawa, Mb. Mabel passed away at the age of 85 at the Charleswood Care Centre in Winnipeg on October 15, 2025.
She was predeceased by her husband Edwin; son William; Father Stace; Mother Mabel; and her brothers (Tom and Alec).
Mabel met and married Edwin Johnson in January 1960 and they began their life together in Portage La Prairie and Gregg, MB before moving to Winnipeg in 1969. Together they had 4 children; William, Marlene (Ken), Joyce (Ken), and Kerry. Mabel had 7 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mabel worked at Woolco (Walmart) in Transcona for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and crafting. She made many matching outfits for Marlene and Joyce and lots of doll clothes. She also enjoyed traveling, especially her many trips to Hawaii with her good friend Pat. She also took a few bus tours to Nashville, Florida and several cross border shopping trips. She always loved those experiences.
Mabel’s mother lived with her for several years before requiring more care than Mom could provide and subsequently moved into a care home. They enjoyed each other’s company.
As children, Marlene and Joyce remember wonderful Christmases shared with their Grandparents and some years Mabel’s brother and his family, Uncle Tom and Aunt Liz and their girls would also join them. Mom always cooked a huge Turkey dinner and there were presents, dancing, treats and lots of fun. Once the grandchildren came along Mom enjoyed spending time with them and always spoiled them. A favourite event was making gingerbread houses at Christmas time. Mom would buy all kinds of Christmas candies and all the grandchildren would gather around the kitchen table and build and decorate their own gingerbread house. The kids loved it! Mom always made Christmas special. Thank you for the wonderful childhood memories, Mom.
A private family service was held for Mom on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Austin Cemetery.
