BRENDA JOHNSTON

August 26, 1948 - March 25, 2024

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Brenda on March 25th at the age of 75 from Parkinson disease.

Brenda was a mother to Daniel, Pauline, and Grandmother to Kahleena. Early in her life she became a mom to an extended family, JoAnne, Joyce. Patricia and Julie raising them as her own.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Louise Green, her bothers Wayne, Bruce, Keith, Timothy and sisters in law Diane and Arla.

Brenda is survived by her son Daniel (David), daughter Pauline, granddaughter Kahleena, sisters Wilma, Freda (Ernie), Lorraine (Bobbie) and brothers Ken, and Zale (Kathy) and her very good friend Lou Vermette.

She was an avid reader of novels, newspapers, and magazines. She enjoyed playing cards, board games and Chinese checkers with family and residents at Centennial Lodge. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts. She made plastic canvas numbered squares that she went floor to floor installing these on the back of wheelchairs that helped identify where the chair and resident belonged.

In earlier days Brenda liked to fish and would jump at any opportunity she could get. She would go to Lockport or any lake that she was asked to go to by her friends with boats. She received several Master Angler Awards for the fish she caught. Fish suppers were great! Many trips were taken to Winnipeg Beach where she enjoyed time at the family cottage. She liked walking to the boardwalk at Winnipeg Beach to play in the arcades followed by walks by the water.

Brenda had trips to Cuba, Bahamas, Mexico, and Florida in her younger years.

Brenda liked to help women's shelters and would give them whatever she could to help.

We want to thank the nurses and support staff at Centennial Lodge Golden West (Salvation Army) for all their kindness and support. A special thank you to Major Brenda Coles for her comforting talks and prayers.

Brenda’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.
