JEANETTE JOYCE JOHNSTON
(née SOLINSKI)
May 21, 1947 – July 12, 2024
Peacefully, surrounded by family, my darling Jeanette passed away on July 12, 2024, at the St. Boniface Hospital. Jeanette was born in Gimli, Manitoba and grew up on a farm outside of Arborg, Manitoba.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving husband Duane; sons, Darren (Shelley) and Ryan (Mary Ann); as well as her precious grand-pets, Lulu, Grace, Duff, and Pearl.
She also leaves behind her mother Victoria; sister Lorraine (Aldo); brother Lawrence (Elaine); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Jeanette had a number of jobs over the years, but her favourite and last one was a Customer Service Clerk at the Canada Safeway on Luxton and Main. She loved serving and interacting with many of the seniors who were regulars at the store, and she fondly referred to them as her “Old-timers”. There were a couple of occasions where an old-timer of hers passed away and she asked and received permission from the store manager to attend their funeral across the street at Cropo Funeral Home to represent Canada Safeway during work hours.
Jeanette loved to dance, and she was very good at it. She loved a good polka, but her favourite was doing an old-time waltz with our dear friend, Terry Light. They were very good together on the dance floor and they were known as Fred and Ginger.
Jeanette loved lake life and our cottage which eventually became our home until 2020 at Sandy Lake, Ontario. She had many friends there and she enjoyed her daily runs in her golf cart checking to make sure everyone’s cottage was ok. She was known as the Sheriff, and she cherished that title.
Jeanette also loved to bake, and her baking were always delicious and made with love and they were enjoyed by many people over the years. And of course, many times, she had to make extra for the “The kids”.
Family was everything to Jeanette. She loved her boys, Darren and Ryan so much and Shelley and Mary Ann when they came into our family. They were a huge part of her life and she was always looking for something to do for “The kids”.
Her sister Lorraine was also very important in her life, and they kept in touch on a regular basis. As well, Lorraine’s daughter Tara, held a very special place in her Chocha’s heart. Jeanette always said that Tara was the daughter she never had.
In keeping with Jeanette’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Cremation has taken place and there will be a gathering of family and friends in the very near future.
Rest in peace, my Darling.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Jeanette’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Although geographical challenges kept our visits few in number, gathering at the table for a beautiful home cooked meal prepared by Jeanette 'at the lake' will remain one of our cherished family memories. Jeanette and Duane's Sandy Lake home truly was a place where troubles were packed up, and love, laughter, guitars and songs were unpacked and poured out through the days and nights. Garth's memories go back much further to when Duane and Jeanette met and began their enduring love - soulmate teenagers who proved to be in it for the long run. We will miss Jeanette dearly and send our deepest condolences to Duane, Darren, Ryan, Shelley and Mary Ann - Jeanette's love will continue to shine down on her beloved Duane and "the kids". xoxo

John and I were so sad to hear of Jeanette passing.
She was one of a kind for sure. We had many great times with her and Duane when they lived in this area.
Jeanette would greet everyone with a big smile and a hug and was lots of fun to be around. We had many dinner parties all together and Jeanette was the star when it came to desserts! I still use many of her recipes to this day!
Ourpest condolemces to Duanefam!.
She will be deeply missed by all that we're lucky to know her!

We always looked forward to their annual summer party at Sandy Lake and we really had fun together at the Purple Martin Halloween socials. Our deepest condolences to the family. Jeannette and I shared the love of Christmas, or should I say, wishing it would just pass us by 😬. We were known as the Grinch of Christmas and often talked about how we should go somewhere warm for the holidays. Joking aside, I was/am very fond of Jeannette (and Duane of course) and referred to them as Mootie and Footie. I will always remember and cherish the good laughs we had, and boy did we laugh. Nothing compared to fishing off the dock and game nights at the lake. I'm saddened and will miss you terribly, but I know you're with us in spirit.
Love Lisa❤️

Over the years we were often at the same gatherings and Jeanette was always the one to bring at least 2 desserts. Her recipes graced the pages of the Miner and News for years. You are missed by many here in Lac Lu and Pellatt
