ROBERT JAMES JOHNSTON

April 1, 1976 – May 24, 2021

With sad hearts, we announce the tragic passing of a kind and gentle soul Robert James Johnston on May 24, 2021

Born in Winnipeg, 1976, Rob was predeceased by his father Dale.  Left to mourn his loss are his mother Penny; sister Laura (Curtis Fedorchuk); brother Cole (Marjolaine); sons, Chase and Kaden; his dog Tikka; nieces and nephews, Cole, Copelyn, and Adrian.

He will also be missed by his best buddy, JT; his uncle Jim; aunties Judy, Donna, Ivy, and Val, as well as all of his cousins.

Born in Winnipeg 1976, Rob was predeceased by his father, Dale. Rob grew up in East Selkirk, Thompson and East St. Paul.  As a young man, Rob worked for several construction companies including JD Penner Paving Stone, Tallieu Road Construction, Patterson Grain and WWF Water and Sewer.  Rob was well liked by all and will be remembered for his great smile and laugh.  Rob was a comedian, the life of the party.  Rob loved the outdoors, canoeing, camping and fishing spending many weekends with his brother Cole just being kids.  Rob was always helpful to all who needed it.  Unfortunately, Rob’s health deteriorated over the past two years.  All the hospital visits and surgeries took their toll.  The pain is gone now. Rob can rest.

As Rob wished, cremation has taken place.  A private celebration of life and burial will take place in the future. In the meantime, Rob's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Thanks to Dr. A. Haresha for his care and concern for Rob over the years, you were a friend, and thanks to the Kenora OPP for their kindness and compassion.

As Rob wanted in lieu of flowers, donations to the Manitoba Humane Society or the Aurora Recovery Centre.

Sending condolences to the family. Rob was always very good to me as a kid, and always had a big smile when he saw me throughout the years. I had just turned 10 when Chase was born and have watched him grow into an amazing young man. He’s got Rob’s charisma, and his height!  May Rob be at peace now.

I am Very sorry. Sorry I didn’t know until now, sorry that I didn’t get to enjoy another conversation with Rob.  I will never forget that day I went to see him in St B. I asked him what he wanted and he said root beer and kfc gravy with a side of fries.  They let me in icu to be with him, I brought “B” and we chatted about all the well wishes and prayers.  He joked and tried to laugh off the pain and condition he was in.  When he healed, he forgot I went to see him and he was so excited to tell me about a dream he had of me coming to see him and sending him prayers…  This world will truly miss him, he loved his family so much. May he finally have peace from the pain.  I am truly sorry. 🦅

Dear Penny, Laura, Cole and families, I struggle to find the words to convey our deepest condolences in losing Rob.  It is indeed tragic and cuts like a knife.  We share your grief.  He was far too young to leave this world yet also too young to suffer in illness. We both remarked how when speaking with Rob, he gave you his full attention and you felt he was truly listening and in the moment - too rare in today's fast-paced society.   May you find peace in the days ahead and care and love each other as Rob and Dale would have wanted.  What more can you do, after all. Aunt Ivy and Uncle Rick

I am so very sorry to hear about Rob. I haven't seen him since the teen years in Thompson, but I remember him as a fun and charming guy.

Rob will be so missed.   I loved being his sister.  He had a gentle soul and I can still hear his funny laugh.  We had great times growing up gardening every summer  where he would eat so many carrots, he would turn orange.  We shared the love of animals together, always looking for ways to help strays or injured animals on our many outdoor adventures.  He was a great brother with a kind heart.  We loved fishing together and he will be so missed.
