DARRYLL JOHN JONES
November 10, 1968 - December 22, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle, and friend, Darryll.
He died peacefully at home with his family after his sudden but short illness.
Darryll leaves behind his close family, Juanita and Ron; Lori and Darren; and Alexander and Mary; his nieces, Amanda, Alyssa, Majesta, and Daphne; nephews, Justin, Bohdan, and Garrett; and his great nephews, Owen and Mason. Darryll was predeceased by his mother and father, John Jones and Rita Lean, who passed just over a month before he did. They were very close and spent a lot of time together. Darryll also leaves behind many dear friends from over the years.
His early years from school, baseball, football, or band, where he gracefully played his trumpet, he won awards and took trips and even had his own polka band that played at legions and weddings. A short while after high school graduation he joined the military where he made many long-life friends. Graduating from the Royal Canadian Artillery Battle School in 1989, he was then posted to Ontario in the Airborne Regiment. He left the military after a bad accident in a 21/2truck and had many jobs as a civilian. He worked in shipping, construction materials, building a golf course, making plastics, and his last job was a maintenance manager at the hotel downtown.
He loved his family dearly, and was always available to help - from babysitting to mowing the lawn, or building Mom her deck and landscaping. He loved dogs, everyone he met and he knew them all around the neighbourhood. He will be missed by them, especially our family dogs, Sandie and Cleo. In his later years you would often find him out for long dog walks, or doing his hobby of metal detecting. He loved to spend time just hanging out with the regulars, his friends at the hotel down the street, sitting out on the patio making jokes and having a cold one. He always had some funny stories to tell, about his antics with his friends and the good old days in the army, we will all miss hearing them and reminiscing with him.
An informal celebration of Darryl’s life will be held, please stop by to share stories. It will be at 2:00pm – 4:00pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Airport Motor Inn, in the constellation room located at 1800 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg, MB.
Darryll’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Darryl was like a brother to me ! We hung out many times as I am his sister Juanita's best friend.
we had many laughs together and good times
He loved my dog Shady and she was so happy to see when he would come over for a visit. She would just be licking his face and he would allow her to
it was always so funny!
He is greatly missed by us Rest in peace Darryl ❤️🩹 Until we meet again

My uncle, who was more of a father to me than my own. who, took care of Justin and I, home from school sick or faking just to hang out with my funny uncle. Who let me play video games, and woodwork in his kitchen with the dremel. Ill always have memories of us hanging out at the mall for my birthdays and searching the ground for lost metal treasures. You were fiercely protective strong and moms true best friend, which made us so close. I sing apples, peaches pumpkin pie, Majesta the pesta song to myself. Still stuck in my head, going on 25 years. so thank you for that, and so many funny moments. I get my love for animals from you, and the way you loved every creature who crossed your path. rescued runaway dogs, and loved my Sandie. My mammy kitten could be seen on your lap at all times when he was still here..reunited with Princess, (the bird), and all the animals whom you loved and went before you. Gone fishin'

One of the only pictures I have of when my big brother would come and stay with us and I would annoy him with endless episodes of Polka Dot Door.
The second picture is a really sweet one of Darryll and Dad that I found while going through Dad's photo albums.
