BERNADETTE LUCIE MARIE JOUNOT

Bernadette, veuve de (feu) Henri Jounot et maman de (feu) Bernard Jounot est décédée paisiblement le 23 octobre 2024, entourée de ses enfants.

Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Yannick (Michelle), Michel (Chantal), Nicole (Antoine), ses petits-enfants: Robert (Megan), Brigitte (Paul), Evelyne (Thomas), Ludivine (Matthew), Cedric, Emilie (Jeffrey), Christiane, Romain (Kristi), Benjamin, Henri (Lauren) et 16 arrière-petits-enfants.

Maman est née à Plumelec en France. Dans sa jeunesse elle a fait face à plusieurs épreuves: la mort de sa maman à 10 ans, de 14 à 18 ans les horreurs de la guerre, et à 18 ans la mort violente de son père. Dès l’âge de 12 ans elle est devenue responsable des tâches ménagères et de certains travaux de la ferme. Jusqu’à son mariage à l’âge de 23 ans, elle a eu une vie très dure. Elle a toujours travaillé fort.

Peu après, un bébé dans les bras et un autre dans le ventre, elle et Papa ont entrepris une grande aventure. Celle de partir au Canada. Elle était très courageuse.

C’était une maman heureuse et aimante. Très conviviale, sa porte était toujours ouverte aux visiteurs qui se régalaient de ses biscuits et gâteaux faits maison.

Elle a travaillé pendant de nombreuses années a l'hôpital de St. Boniface comme aide-soignante, notamment à la maternité. Elle parlait souvent avec amour et nostalgie d'avoir emmailloté un tel nouveau-né, d’avoir accompagné les heureux nouveaux parents vers la sortie.

la retraite elle a continué de soutenir chaleureusement les autres. Elle tenait à cœur son bénévolat au Centre Flavie Laurent et ses visites aux personnes âgées au Centre Taché. Elle aimait aller au chalet avec Papa. Un autre de ses grands plaisirs était de discuter avec les gens qu'elle rencontrait pendant ses tournées à bicyclette; ce qu'elle a fait jusqu'à l'âge de 90 ans. Bonne jardinière elle prenait plaisir à partager la récolte abondante de son jardin. Elle recevait fréquemment des visiteurs, même à l’improviste, l’accueil était toujours chaleureux.

Maman a vécu une belle et longue vie. Elle était prête à rejoindre Papa et Bernard.

La cérémonie religieuse aura lieu le mercredi 30 octobre à 13:30 en la Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface, précédée par une éloge à 13:20 et suivie d’une reception.

Our mother Bernadette passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024 surrounded by her children. She leaves to mourn her children: Yannick (Michelle), Michel (Chantal), Nicole (Antoine); her grand children: Robert (Megan), Brigitte (Paul), Evelyne (Thomas), Ludivine (Matthew), Cedric, Emilie (Jeffrey), Christiane, Romain (Kristi), Benjamin, Henri (Lauren); and 16 great grand children.

Bernadette was predeceased by her husband Henri; and her son Bernard.

Our mother was born in Plumelec, France. She faced many challenges in her youth. Her mother died when she was 10, then from 14-18 years old she lived through the horrors of a war in which her father was killed. At 12 years old she was responsible for running a household and helping with farm chores. She had a very difficult life until she married at the age of 23.

Shortly after marrying, our mother and father embarked on a great adventure. They moved to Canada with one baby in their arms and expecting another one.

We had a joyful and loving mother. Her door was always open to visitors who were greeted with plenty of homemade goodies.

She loved working as a Nurse’s Aid at the Saint-Boniface Hospital, especially in the maternity ward. She often spoke with love and nostalgia of the babies she bundled up or of the new parents she accompanied.

After retirement, Bernadette continued to help and support others. She volunteered regularly at Centre Flavie Laurent and often went to visit the sick and elderly at Centre Taché. She also enjoyed spending time at the cottage with our father. Maman was amazing: she rode her bike until she was 90, she always had a beautiful garden and she happily shared its abundant harvest with others. It’s a wonder she still found the time to host unexpected as well as invited guests but she always greeted them warmly.

Maman lived a good and long life. She was ready to join her husband Henri and her son Bernard.

A mass will be held on October 30 at 1:30pm at the Saint-Boniface Cathedral, preceded by a eulogy at 1:20pm and followed by a reception.
