SYLVIA LYNN JUMAGA

Today one of the bravest women that I have ever known has passed away. Sylvia Lynn Jumaga passed away October 24th, 2023, born February 10th, 1975. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis on her 21st birthday, and has lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over 27 years.

On the night of January 22nd, 2023 she had multiple seizures and has spent every day since then in the hospital, rehabilitation, and then palliative care units. She spent a couple of weeks in the ICU, a few days in the general hospital and then was moved to the Assiniboine Centre. From the Assiniboine Centre she valiantly worked to try and regain functionality of her legs through physiotherapy, but finally in April came to the realization that she was never going to come home again.

At that time, she started working on getting into the MAiD program. She had decided that with the state of health care as it is, she was not going to become dependent on the failing health care system with a disease that was slowly stripping her dignity away from her. On June 15th, she was accepted into the MAiD program, and on September 5th attained final approval to complete the MAiD program.

Sylvia leaves behind her parents Lawrence and Marlene Jumaga, her significant other  Jerome Yoner, her best friend Marina (Blaine) Tufts and their family (Michael (Rebecca), Jesse (Glynn), Madison (Rosen), and Nicholas), Kim Melnyk and her daughter Morgan, as well as many other friends and former co-workers dear to her.
