Greg Kacsmar
GREGORY "GREG" KACSMAR
April 10, 1964 – August 7, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family announces Greg passed away on August 7, 2024 at the age of 60 after an extended battle with multiple health challenges.
He is survived by his dad Walter; his sister Kerry; brothers, Chris (Shelley) and Mike; nephews, Stephan (Lindsay, Della, and Joseph), Sean (Camila), and Dominick; and niece Camilla.
He was predeceased by his mom Della; brother-in-law Marcel; and his beloved dog Swiffer.
Greg was the youngest of the Kacsmar clan and the only one born in Winnipeg. He remained true to the Kacsmar Saskatchewan roots and cheered for the Roughriders. He was also a fan of the Winnipeg Jets and Glasgow Celtic. He was athletic himself, playing in the Premier league for local soccer and representing Manitoba in provincial tournaments. He shared his love of soccer and traveling with brother Chris and was passionate about music with his brother Mike.
Artistically, he was very talented. Wood carving, tattooing and stained glass were just a few of his talents. He was generous with his art and gifted many pieces to those he cared about. After moving to Selkirk, his interest in the Indigenous culture grew immensely. He was embraced in the community and many of his happiest years were spent learning from elders and following the rich traditions that were so generously shared with him.
Greg also leaves behind many friends. From his childhood to his most recent days, he was fun, friendly and easy to like. He continued making friends throughout his life in his many adventures and interests. He had many people in his corner over the years and friends such as Rob and Tony Schmidt, Shelley Armstrong and his Royal Albert neighbours who never gave up on him even during his toughest times.
Greg battled alcoholism and mental health issues for decades. The family would like to thank all of those who supported him with dignity from his many counselors, sponsors, nurses, doctors and the ICU staff at HSC.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making contributions in Greg’s memory to the Addictions Foundation Manitoba.
There will not be a formal service. A private gathering will be held at a future date.
Greg’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

This little light of mine. A gift you passed on to me. I'm gonna let it shine, to guide you on your way home. Rest in peace old chum. Save a seat for me at the bar. Until we meet again.

"Kaz" was a true Ace Face. He introduced me to so much music and a certain lifestyle that still remains with me today. Though I hadn't seen Greg for quite some time, he always seemed to pop into my thoughts. I loved seeing the Who with him and Mike in Minneapolis all those years ago. I will always remember you Greg.

As Justin S and Greg said many times, AYE YAI YAI YAI!
Greg was a kind person with a big heart and such a great friend to me.
He was so talented, here is a glass piece he gave to us so many moons ago which hangs by the fire in our house to this day.
My thoughts are with all of the Kacsmar clan.
Peace brother and reach for the sky!
