DARRYL LAWRENCE KARMAZENUK

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband and father, Darryl Karmazenuk on Monday April 20,2020 at the St Boniface Hospital.  He was 62 years old.

Darryl will be lovingly remembered by his wife Caroline; daughter Amanda (Tyler); step-daughter Heather; grandchildren Kaynen, Maddox and Ryder; sister Lisa (Bob); brother Greg (Dorothy); niece Lesley (Aaron); and nephew Nick (Kaylee); as well as many friends and neighbors, some of whom felt like family.

Darryl was predeceased by his parents Manley and Viola; and grandparents Nicholas and Anne.

Darryl was born on September 14, 1957 in Carman, MB.  Growing up, Darryl loved all things sports. He had a collection of hockey and baseball cards, and could often be found on the front street playing hockey with his classmates. There were many table-top hockey tournaments played with his younger brother, sometimes lasting days.  Darryl also had a paper route for many years, delivering the Winnipeg Free Press.  He attended college in Brandon, and later moved to Winnipeg, where he met and married his first wife Sandy.  Together, they had a daughter (Amanda). A short time later Darryl and Sandy separated and divorced. On June 4, 1999, Darryl married his second wife Edith, who had a daughter that he took in as his own. They later separated.

In 2006, Darryl met his soulmate Caroline. They moved into their forever home in St Vital, where he was employed by Murdoch Management working as the caretaker of their building.  He made many friends on his daily routes. All of the neighbors knew Darryl and thought very highly of him.  Darryl and Caroline enjoyed going to their local Boston Pizza, which they referred to as their very own “Cheers” spot. They met some of their best friends there, and even got to know the staff. Darryl was an avid Chicago Blackhawks and NASCAR fan. It would be rare to find him without his Hawks jersey on during game days.  On race days, he would be rooting for his favorite in the #48 car, Jimmie Johnson. Darryl and Caroline lived in their St Vital home until his passing.

In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations can be made in Darryl’s memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. 

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
