BODO FRITZ DIETER KAUFFMANN

November 30, 1938 – March 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend on Saturday, March 14th, 2026. Bodo is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margret; daughter Sabine (Al), son Bo (Bernice); and granddaughter Serena. He is predeceased by his parents-in-law, Selma and Andreas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Helmut; as well as his parents, Karoline and Fritz; and brothers, Rainer, Dieter and Harry in Germany.

Bodo was born on November 30th, 1938, in Eberswalde, Germany. He completed his apprenticeship as a butcher, working for Otto Mess. He married Margret, the love of his life, in August 1960 in Düsseldorf.

In June 1974, they immigrated to Winnipeg with their two children and his parents-in-law. An extremely hard working and determined man with a strong work ethic, Bodo built a wonderful life for his family in Canada. He worked as a butcher/meat cutter, retiring from Costco in 2002.

Bodo loved spending time with family at Red Rock Lake and Lake of the Woods. A proud Sturgeon Master Angler, he often rose early to fish over the falls at Nutimik Lake, catching sturgeon and goldeye, to smoke in his homemade smoker. He was always eager to lend a helping hand, sharing his skills while working on home and cottage projects. An excellent cook, he took great joy in preparing family dinners, treating loved ones with his amazing blueberry pancakes, Rouladen, Filet Mignon and Obstboden mit Sahne.

He shared a beautiful life with Margret, enjoying time at the cottage, at home by the pool, or with friends, playing cards, watching the Jets, cooking memorable meals, and traveling to Kelowna for cherry and apple picking. He took great pride in his children and granddaughter, Serena. Her presence would light up his face with a smile that would fill the room.

Schatzemann, Papi, Vati and Opi,

You will be remembered for your

witty sense of humor and endless

jokes, gentle kind nature,

and unwavering love and support

for your family.

You will be forever in our hearts!

Despite increasing challenges of living with Parkinson’s Disease over the past eight years, Bodo remained positive, strong and grateful. The family thanks friends and loved ones for their support and especially his home care workers for their compassionate care. Donations may be made to Parkinson’s Canada or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

The hymn in the photo presentation, “So Nimm Denn Meine Hände”, sung by Rudolf Schock, was the song that accompanied Bodo and Margret on their wedding day.

Friends and relatives are kindly invited to honor Bodo’s memory by sharing photos, memories or stories, using the comment section on this page.
