CHRISTOF KAUFMANN
August 6, 1930 – September 8, 2026
Christof Kaufmann died, September 8, 2026, at Victoria General Hospital, completing a 96 year life journey with dignity and grace, surrounded by loving family. His time in hospital was short, largely thanks to his kindred spirit and wife of 37 years, Anneliese, who unwaveringly provided the compassionate support he came to need more recently. He was ready for the end, with no fear, filled with an appreciation for his experiences and especially his family: wife Anneliese, their children & partners Christina & Gilles, Anthony & Kym, Angela & Peter, Ram and grandchildren Rory, Lily, Theo, Julia, Emily, Michael, Hannah, Nicole, Chantel, Jasmine and Cruz.
Over a near century, Christof witnessed tremendous and turbulent changes in our world. His path was marked by enduring passions and many adventures; he often recounted these at family dinners, together with a seemingly endless supply of wit and jokes. At the age of 90, he embarked on a new adventure, writing a novel that he completed just last month. It is aptly entitled Hope, combining concepts of intriguing science fiction conjured by his great intellect and creativity together with themes of love, respect for all life and reverence of nature that were central values throughout his life.
We know he had many more stories to share and wish there had been even more time, while grateful for all we had.
Christof lived well, did good and will be remembered always.

My love & deep condolences to Christof's family, and his beloved wife Anneliese. They both became my dear friends from the time Chris & I served on the Board of our condo complex. Anneliese & I had met earlier through our mutual love of Scrabble, in which she & my sister Amy shared many hard-fought tournaments. i began joining Christof & Anneliese for fun social times after each Board meeting. It was so easy being in the same condo building. We didn't need a designated driver!
We discovered that we knew many of the same Winnipeg architects & artists, over the years, & shared many experiences from the artistic community.
Christof was writing a wonderful Sci-fi novel that he invited me to read & discuss w him. It was great fun to do that until his eye-sight & hearing deserted hI'm. That was so disappointing & frustrating for him to have to become unable to pursue his writing. & sharing. With his European degrees in architecture & engineering, he held a wealth of knowledge to contribute to the Condo Board's planning for structural improvements & maintenance of the structure. He had been the architect of a same-era building like ours, located also in Osborne Village. He understood & could advise on how new replacements & repairs should be chosen to fit with our 1970s structure. When we were remodeling the lobby, he initiated installing an automatic door that has so well-served the aging population of the building.
Christof was a gem, a very gifted & special persass coues & friends like me bon Voyage, Chris!
