HEATHER DAWN KAYE

February 21, 1968 - February 25, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Heather. She left us far too soon after a courageous battle with ALS.

She was a loving daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, godmother, friend and coworker. Heather will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by many, her parents Alan Kaye and Melinda Kaye (née Woodley); siblings Douglas (Deb) and Christine (Ed); aunts Barb and Jane; nieces and nephews Sacha (Doug) and Danika and Mason (Christine) and cousins Peter and Karen. She will forever be in the heart and mind of Lisa Ness (née Vickers), her best friend of 40 years. Lisa’s family, Tim, Haley, Brittany, Stephanie and their extended families were a big part of Heather’s world.

She was predeceased by her grandparents Ivy and Wilson Kaye and Jessie and Reginald Woodley, her aunt Carolyn Kaye and other extended family members.

Heather was a warm and compassionate person who possessed tremendous strength, grace and kindness. She was extremely dedicated to her friends and family. She would never forget a birthday or special occasion. She was extremely positive, present, generous with her time and could raise the spirits of those around her.

Heather was born and raised in Winnipeg. She attended Sir William Osler Elementary and Grant Park High School. Throughout that time, she worked at the local McDonalds and at her mother’s shop, Scoop ‘n’ Weigh. After high school Heather began a career at Thomas Cook Travel, while obtaining her travel agent credentials. She continued on with American Express after it acquired Thomas Cook in 1994. She moved from there to the Frontier School Division in 2003 where she remained until she was no longer able to work. During her time at Frontier, Heather pursued a post-secondary education while working full-time. She completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and went on to complete her CPA. Heather was always a hard worker. She was extremely determined and competent. She could always be counted upon but was very humble when given accolades.

Heather was a nature lover and enjoyed many aspects of the outdoors. She enjoyed camping adventures with her goddaughter Haley, nature walks, kayaking and golf. She became an avid golfer over the years, enjoying many ladies golf nights and golf weekends. When she got her new set of clubs, she could really hammer her driver.

She thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Assiniboine Park Zoo, particularly the polar bears. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading mysteries and listening to country, pop and rock. She did yoga and enjoyed Hallmark and Disney movies. She loved going to music concerts, going to Jets games and attending plays with her mother.

Heather really enjoyed travel. As a toddler, the travel bug bit her early on with a trip to Great Britain with her parents. As a child, her summers were spent exploring Canada in the backseat of the family car. Whether it was a great journey to South America, graduation trips with her extended nieces to Florida, a weekend getaway to a friend’s cottage or a short trip across the border, travel filled Heather’s soul. She enjoyed the warmth of the sun and the sand between her toes but also got to appreciate the weather and sites that Northern and rural Manitoba provided. One of her favourite places in the world was DisneyWorld and she had the opportunity to visit both parks and also meet her favourite character, Donald Duck.

Heather was an active volunteer serving as treasurer for the Oak Table, her condo board and organizer to more then one ladies golf event. She supported her community by fundraising/donating to many causes/charities; Breast Cancer Society, Fort Whyte Alive, Assiniboine Park Conservance, Winnipeg Male Chorus to name a few.

The family would like to thank the Grace Hospital, ALS Winnipeg, her primary caregivers Amy and Terri, and the rest of the Comforts of Home Care Team and all the friends that supported her through this difficult illness but also throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for late spring or early summer. We encourage people to use this venue to share memories and stories about Heather.

If you are considering a donation to honour Heather’s memory, please consider the ALS Society of Manitoba, the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Fort Whyte Alive or the Oak Table.

My deepest condolences to the family.  I worked with Heather at Frontier School Division.  A visit to her office was always a pleasure and you were sure to leave with a smile.  I only recently heard of her passing upon bumping into a colleague.  I retired from the division a few years ago   I was saddened at this tragic news.  May she rest in peace. She will be greatly missed.  The world is lessor without her in it.  ❤

Condolences to all of Heathers family and friends.  I had the opportunity to work with Heather at FSD.  Heather was very professional at her job.   Although our meetings were few, she always had time to chat, something I will miss.  May you be at peace.

Heather was the most amazing friend , aunt, godmother, roomie, travel buddy and all the things in between. Our family will miss her so much! This is a tough one because to us she WAS our family and has left a huge hole in our world but the adventures and beautiful memories she left us with will always be here. She fought like crazy right until the end and she shared her determination and strength with her nieces, Brittany and Stephanie  and her goddaughter Haley - they are stronger ,smarter, kinder and better women because of their auntie Heather. We love you and miss you like crazy ❤ Lisa, Tim, Haley, Brittany and Stephanie

I had the pleasure of working with Heather for seventeen years prior to retiring as the CFO of Frontier School Division.  When Heather started at Frontier I remember she was a very organized, goal oriented individual who I thought was a little shy.  Heather excelled in her position as Lease and Capital Accountant and within the first few years had saved the organization hundreds of thousands of dollars.  She pursued her educational goals and was able to obtain her Bachelor of Commerce Honors degree and her Chartered Professional Accountant designation all while excelling in her Management position Frontier.  This in itself speaks volumes of who she was.  When her ailment forced her into early retirement she had achieved the position of Assistant  Secretary Treasurer, we were all so proud of her accomplishments.  As it turned out Heather was never that shy person we had hired her laughter was infectious and her wit was off the charts, she was a team player who cared about all the people she worked with. My deepest condolences to Heathers family she always spoke so highly of you all, I felt I knew each of you without us ever meeting.   Gerald Cattani

Rest in Peace sweet Heather ❤

I met Heather when I joined Frontier School Division in 2015. As an ever-smiling colleague she was a pleasure to work with and we became good friends. We discovered we both had a passion for golf and often exchanged stories of our golf adventures. Heather was one of the most positive people I have ever had the pleasure of working with, her thoughtfulness, smile, and laugh in our office will always be missed. My condolences to the Kaye family as you grieve Heather's passing, a life much too short. Reg Klassen, Chief Superintendent Frontier School Division

I golfed with Heather in the WPLG league and Heather and I served together for 2 years on the Executive as President and Treasurer.  She served us well and was an amazing lady.  We were sad when she had to stop golfing.  She is missed.  I’m so sorry for your family’s loss.
